Post WTB early '92 recessed-badge hood

Anybody have an early 1992 hood with the recessed badge they'd like to sell?

Perhaps someone removed to lighten up for racing and has one sitting around?

Color not important; must be straight - no dings, dents, bends, or required bondo.

BTW, no accident involved on my baby :-) ...just that a PO replced the original recessed hood with a later model (non-recessed) hood and I want to bring back to authentic condition.

Anyone?

TIA,

IIRC, there was one on eBay not too long ago (midnight blue metallic?)

Have you tried www.oaklahomaforeign.com and the other dismantlers?

Or perhaps Sunset Imports (cost + 15%) for a new OEM hood?

Lewis the early 968's had an inset badge - similar to the way your Cayenne badge is inset - i doubt you would find a NEW hood from the '92 stock.

Jeff at Sunset Imports can find anything
He found a brand new OEM 964 Cup car aluminum hood for a friend a while back.
The inset hood badge does look very nice; I wished they kept it for all 968 model years.
Does yours have the 'squared edges' rear 968 badge as well?

BTW, you had to mention the "C" word, didn't you
And here I was trying to hide and put it all behind me

Hi Lewis - I spoke with Sunset this morning - Bob actually, not Jeff - and there are no differnt part numbers distinguishing old from new, recessed from single-plane.

There was one at 20th Street Auto in AZ, but was sold 2 weeks ago.

I do have the squared edges on the tail numbers too.

Shamus - Thanks for posting the picture. I 'borrowed' it to post on the Pelican site with the same inquiry. Of course, I should have asked first and hope it's OK. All royalties will accrue to you!

Here's a 92 bonnet (hood) from the UK:

Thanks, Shamus...gotta love Gil's Raisin, a very unique color combo...and the earliest 968 I've heard of (except for the first Turbo RS - NS820065).

Lewis - nice find. Thanks for the help! Might be tough getting the 'sitz' warps out of the hood. Looks like someone pressed down too hard on the badge to close the hood. Nonetheless, I've made an inquiry to the seller.

Best,

Perhaps a paintless dent removal shop could remove it?
I've seen them do some amazing work before.

I like the recessed hood. It looks nice, good luck finding one.

Some punk used a screw driver and popped the emblem off my 944 scratching the hell out of the paint. If it were recessed he wouldn't have been able to pop it off that way, he probably would have damaged the hood either way though.

Default squared edge script vs. "regular"

Anyone have pictures of the differences between these?

ltc said, "Does yours have the 'squared edges' rear 968 badge as well?"

Thanks,
Rick

Rick - Below is a picture of the flat, squared off letters. Pardon the horrific water spots...been driving her many miles in the rain this week

The newer numbers are slightly smaller and have a bit more rounded surface with softer edges. The 'rounds' are the more common number style as they came on all 968's starting about mid-way through the '92 production year, and continued through the final '95 production year.

BTW, black was the stock color for the numbers. I painted mine silver to make them stand out against the midnight blue paint...technically incorrect, but I like the contrast, plus it completments the stainless door sills.

Best,

Buzz

Just came across this one:
http://www.germanautodismantlers.com...tem=7&mitem=28

Doesn't say recessed badge in the description, but probably worth a phone call?
