Looking for late 968; problem areas
Hi
I'm looking for a low mileage 968, prefer a 94 or 95. Anybody know of any
What problems areas should I look at in a 968 ? I had 2 928's and there were issues with timing belts, water pump, steering rack, leaky A/C, flappy valve etc.

Some well documented problems:
Variocam tensioner pads
Cam teeth missing
Pinion bearing noise
Timing belt/balance shaft belt
Dual mass flywheel
Those are some I can think of.

"dmcentee",
The list Raj has provided seams to cover the big things. From my recent experience with my 968 I would add Motor Mounts & Oil leaks. But from what I can see these all are just the aging of the cars and Not chronic troubles. The 968 looks to be a Very reliable Porsche. I know two local cars with 6 figure mileage and there are lots of 100,000 plus 944's and Turbo living everyday lives. I might note also that there is Very little different in all the years of the 968 - so as you look I would ignore the production year and focus on the maint history. The only advertised difference in a '93 & 94/95 is improved headlamps in the latter cars. But Porsche also eliminated some trim in the engine compartment and used a simpler exhaust tail pipe? The seat leather design was also changed to the 993 style seats. All the books I have read say no mechanical changes occurred, and in fact because sales where so slow in the US some 94 & 95 cars where actually unsold prior year production imported later ???
