Default PPI help

I am looking at a 94 968 in Marietta, GA (north of Atlanta?) but I am in VA and would appreciate recommnedation on refutable shop for a PPI. I'd prefer a M030 car with LSD, but this one has a relatively low miles and in at least in good condition externally. the seller is asking near $17,000, but I think $14,000 is where I think I'd settle for.

I will be using this car as a daily driver and the only thing I confirmed is that the timing belt was done around 52,000 miles. What else should I look for?

Thanks in advance.

I think the $17000 price is in line with the market trend and Excellence price guide for these cars. They have increased in value if anything. You get what you pay for. I rather spend a few $$ more on a cleaner car than feel like I got a great deal on an ok car.
Exactly, what mileage does the car have and how soon does it need any major service? I would also inspect the variocam tensioner pads and chain/cam sprockets for wear. Seems like more and more of these are popping up. I have been using one for a daily driver since last june and have put approx 15K on it. I had to get everything upto spec though and this was on a car that came with a folder full of records.

It has about 67000 miles on it, and I have not yet confirmed anything other than timing belt replacement. The service record only goes back to 2000 or so with the current owner. He owns a detailing business, so the cosmetic wise, the car is in excellent shape.

What were some of the things you had to do, and how much did it end up costing you?

JB, with two posts, you can learn a ton by checking the archives-968.net will have most of this covered too-you can ask more pinpoint questions that way, and have fun doing so.

I had to do the clutch, bushings, bearings, all the belts and rollers.

Hi John,

Ryland's is an long-standing, reputable independent Porsche-specialist shop in Marietta (just 2 miles from my house!). I would totally trust them with a PPI look-over and they won't empty your wallet for it either. Their phone number is 770-951-9305. Good luck!

This might be the same black car in Marietta that I looked at over a month ago. The rear glass had an area that was beginning to delaminate, and the title was a real strange deal (bought at auction in PA). there was also a lengthy gap in service of 6 or 7 years. Drove ok. It was enough for me to walk away, but the title and glass might be sorted out by now. Good luck.

That sounds like the car I been looking at. It was originally bought and registered in PA and now in GA, according to Carfax. The guy did not have much service record as you mention. Thanks for the tip.

I am looking at another one in Chicago. Anyone has a recommendation for a shop near O'Hare for PPI?

Thanks,

John

I'm the current high bidder on the eBay 968 in Georgia that you've been talking about. I talked with the owner and he says that the title is clean and clear and answered a lot of other questions too. It appears to be a good car. Also, the fotos of the steering wheel look bad but he says the steering wheel is in great shape and that it was just the light reflection in the foto. In fact, the light reflection makes several things look a bit weird. He's been driving it long enough to find and fix the bugs, he says the rear end, etc. is quiet (not like 33% of the 968s). It sounds like a great car to me and the photos show a really nice car in a hard to find condition. I just want to let you know that my top bid is $16,550 and if you want to outbid me, I'm not going higher. Why? I just found out that the shipper wants $1,300 to ship to where I'm at and I'd have to factor in a plane ticket from Idaho to Georgia, lodging, plus a couple hundred dollars for pre purchase inspection, etc. Here in the Northwest 968s in this shape with low miles like this one go for quite a bit more...at least the ones I've been looking at and most are not in this good of shape. I offered $18K for a similar one with 50k miles in Seattle and was turned down. They wanted over $20K! And I turned one down that wasn't near this good that had over 100,000 miles on it for $13,000 and was up for a belt change. I like the 968 because it looks similar to my 928, is cheaper to maintain, and it going UP in value rather than down like the 928 is. There just aren't that many 968s and they're usually newer than 928s. I like 928s and I have my eyes on another 928 S4 that just became available (another reason for writing this note) . I don't really need this 968 but if it goes for what my high bid is, I'll gladly take it. But if one of you guys want it, you know where my already made bid stops....$16,550.

If you guys find out anything differently about the car that any of us need to know please chime in. It certainly has impressed me.
