Default Possilble purchase, could use a carfax, any helpers?

Hi Everyone,

Can someone run a carfax report for me. I'm looking at a 968 and just want to be sure everything is in line.

vin #: WP0AA296XRS820432

It's a 1994 Guards red coupe, 49,000 miles, all maintenance just performed, variocam stuff inspected and in good shape, partial black leather with black porsche script inserts, 12 way adjustable seats (lumbar), 18 inch 3.6 turbo rep. wheels, adjustable konis all around, limited slip, weltmeister chip, weltmeister sways, B +B exhaust, body colored wing and moldings, body colored B pillar.

This should be a nice upgrade from my 87 944. If you can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks,

CR

Sounds like a great car. Was the timing belt part of "all maintenance"?

I have good news for you, CR! Everything checked out at Experian Autocheck. I purchased ten reports from them nearly two months ago, and thought I had a couple left. I tried it, and it worked!

I've copied and pasted the most important imformation below. However, if you would like for me to e-mail you the full report, just send me a PM, and I'll be glad to do so. Good luck!

Bruce,

Yes, the timing belt was done. The timing belt, cam belt, cap, rotor and Mobil 1 oil change was done on 6/18/04. And the car was taken back in and retentioned/inspected already.

When does the waterpump need to be done, because I know that it goes longer than the 944 one, but how much longer. There has been no mention of that in my talks with him.

Thanks,

CR

NeedPorscheSpeed,

You are the Man!!!! Thank you so much. That is great news.

I tell you what, I am finally making some money now with my new job (I'm a new teacher, not tons of money, but more than I've ever made before) and I knew that once I got a job I would buy something newer with a little more power than my 87 N/A. And after looking around at almost every car possible, I came to this conclusion:

1. I love the looks, feel, everything about this 924/944/968 line of cars. There is just nothing out there that appeals to me more. I think the porsche styling is better than anything out there right now.

2. The support of such a great group of people, and the get-togethers here in Sacramento that I have been a part of, are something that I do not want to leave behind.

Thank you all so much. I hope to be posting pictures of a new-to-me 968 soon.

Thanks,

CR

P.S. My membership fee will be in the mail shortly.

You are very welcome. I am glad that I could help! Best of luck on your purchase, and I can't wait to see pictures of your new beauty!

I love everything about the 944 series of cars, as well. In fact, I posted this ode to the 944 series on the general 944 forum just last night.

I was thinking along similar lines tonight on my way home from church in my S2. What is it that makes it so enjoyable to drive? There is a definite "je ne sais quoi," that is part of the puzzle, and the answer to the question is not one that is arrived at easily, as there are so many factors that are at play, many of which are subjective.

The most salient reason that makes the drive so enjoyable is the top-notch quality that these cars have. From the solid sound of gently suction when closing the door to the precision of the entire shifting mechanism to the 14-year-old paint job on my S2 that still sparkles, the car resonates with quality. Next, we come to the wonderful balance that these cars inherently possess, mated with their silky smooth powerplants. Also, they have lovely curves that are pleasing to the eye from most any angle, and these cars still receive more than their fair share of stares on any given day. Also, the aural delights the come from revving the engine to redline will keep one driving for "just a few more minutes" every time!

I could go on, but I will move towards driving home what I feel is the strongest reason. These cars have the Porsche crest, their badge of honor on the hood. When one hears the name "Porsche," one generally thinks of first-class quality and a sports car heritage that is second to none. Their reputation is sterling the world over, and this is not something that came about easily or happened overnight. Their sterling reputation was earned through hard work and a commitment to making automobiles in which each driver could experience "driving in its purest form."

Sure, there are some Porsche enthusiasts out there who are derisive about the entire 944 series (or any watercooler, for that matter), saying that they are not "true" Porsches. The problem is, someone forgot to tell Ferry Porsche that, as well as the Porsche executives who, at one time, secretly pushed for the 944 series to replace the 911. We know that it didn't happen, as legends are eternal, but that doesn't mean that 944 series of cars is not exceptional, and, in many ways, superior to the 911.

Personally, I am a big fan of the 911, and the sound of a Flat-6 is music to my ears, and one day I would like to own one, and if I were to sell my 944 series of cars, I could get either a 993 or a 996. However, when I first take ownership of a 911, one requirement of mine is that I have at least one 944 series car (preferably a 968 or 951) in my garage! As much as I appreciate the 993 and 996, owning one will not be at the exclusion of having one of these wonderful, user-friendly, superbly balanced machines in my garage.

CR, I did the belts on my 968 at 57K in January and did not even check on the water pump. Some change it as a while in there item, but my understanding is that is that it does not have the failure issues of the 944 pump. I plan to have a look at it next time I change the belts somewhere between 100k - 120k miles. So it is just my opinion but I think you should be fine with the water pump for many miles to come!

Here are some service items that were due in the last 10K miles and might have been over looked.

40K
Replace ATF, clean strainer, change filter (if tiptronic)
Replace fuel filter
Replace air filter
Replace spark plugs

48K
6 Speed - Change transaxle fluid
Tiptronic - Change oil in axle drive

Every 2 years
Change brake fluid
Change coolant

If any of those items have been skipped they are all easy DIY items (at least for a 6 spd).

Oh and I do not want to scare you but I lost my clutch at 58K. Some people get to 150K on the original clutch but I have heard of several 50K - 60K failures.
