Buzzy Shift Stick - common/by design or transmission mount?
My 6-speed shifter buzzes with the engine RPM. Not enough to visually see, but certainly feel if I rest my hand on it before/after shifting. While my had does not "tingle" after shifting (like when I used old 2-stroke gas-powered weed-whackers) - it has started to grate on my nerves.
The engine idles between 800 and 840 rpm and the shifter is not vibrating too much then - just when I am driving. I have replaced my engine mounts (not the transmission mount) with new OEM's - and there is very little NVH coming from the engine elsewhere - just in the shifter. Car also has new tires (Michelin) and struts so it rides wonderfully to the point that my passengers like the ride more than I because of my experience with the shifter.
I realized this is a 30yo car, and has >100K miles on it. But I've spent a year improving and I guess this is just next on the list if is something the transmission mount would fix - or something else.
i'd take a quick look at under the shift ****- lift up the shifter boot, remove the spring clip and pull the whole lot off the shift lever. there should be rubber dampener bushes on the lever that insulate the shift lever from the shift ****. They are very soft and wouldnt be surprised if yours have disintegrated. i replaced mine with 3d printed ones. There's also that plastic cup socket the shift lever anchors itself in.
I ran a function first CSK shift **** for a while and couldnt get rid of the metal on metal buzzing no matter how i adjusted it so i went back to stock
Might be the torque tube bearings going away if it hasn't been rebuilt.
If it has the split tube, could be the front bearing unit has walked backward and the front of the drive shaft is not supported well leading to extra vibrations.
