Default Ashtray Delete Option?

Was there ever a centre console ashtray delete option? Or, is there an aftermarket alternative? The ashtray is a waste of space - even a plastic trim blank would at least prevent the annoying rattling sliding lid.

Not that I'm aware of. But they are still available new if you want one that looks good. They are good for change.

Thanks Jeff. good for small change if the metal cigarette stub out wasn't there I guess. What I could do is find an old one on ebay and modify it to be a simple change.small items tray.

Default Ash Tray Delete Option

There was a thread on Rennlist about 7-8 years ago that I think resulted in this:

Very cool!! But I would need to see more pics. It's not very elegant looking.

I simply bought a used one, cut out/off the metal tab, then sprayed it with nice matt silver Rustoleum. After I removed the black plastic lid / cover of course. Kept the original to have as a spare. Was good for loose change.

Think this is most likely realistic route. Will scan for a used ashtray. Assuming the 944 has the same?

Late 944’s do have the same ashtray.

Put some stuff in the ash tray to stop it from sliding open. It doesn’t bother me and no mods required

It is damn annoying! I was thinking a couple of low profile rare earth magnets (coin type), glued onto the underside of the lid and the metal frame might work. As the 2 x 1mm ones are literally a dime a dozen on eBay I might give it a whirl and see how they do...

Yes, for now I'll wedge something between the lid and slider and in the meantime look out for a second hand one I can 'modify'.

Next job is to be replacing the clock/lap timer LCD screen. Had the repair kit for almost a year now but just not got round to it.

sorry to bump an old thread. I had one of these for several years. it was nicely made but a bit clunky, and then of course phones got much bigger than when this was designed 8 yrs ago so I stopped using it. I eventually just put my old cigarette tray back in and sold the delete piece.

Seems like a candidate for a 3D printing job and incorporate a couple of USB ports into the design.

Yea I was thinking about that yesterday before this thread even popped back up.
There has to be an elegant solution for this and someone talented enough to do it.
