Default New to me 968

I have been posting a little bit about the latest addition to my household so I thought I would introduce the car in a separate post. For my own cred I am pretty much a 911 turbo guy (currently own a 997 TT, and previously a 996TT, 996 GT2, 930 505 slant, and a 930) and this is my first Porsche that isn't a 911 turbo that I have owned. I have always loved 944's and 968's so when the opportunity presented itself I jumped on it. I almost bought that record selling white 968 but I already own 2 white cars and what's the fun in buying a perfect car? I wanted to do a Wheeler Dealer car but I need Mr. China!

This guy is a 1994 Black on tan 60k mile car. Pretty immaculate but......it has some issues. This car really needed a lot of TLC and having not seeing the car before purchasing there were some surprises.

So it needs a new suspension, motor mounts, steering rack, and control arms. Oh and there is a leak from the oil pan so new gasket there. There are some other issues like the timing belt needs to be adjusted and the sunroof is a dud (I already broke 1 new gear) so I am working on this as much as possible. I am not sure if I am going to tackle the full job but I am contemplating.

The bad is I need to paint the front bumper, hood and a fender. It appears that a previous owner got over zealous with a buffer and went through the paint in spots. I have never painted a car and I honestly have never bought a car with paintwork (a big no no for me) but I have no choice. I will get this done to a higher than factory standard when the time comes unless I can source a used black hood. That is the worst of the car.

Here are just a couple of pics. I will keep ya'll up to date on progress.

Congrats, 968s are fun. I bet the word balanced will be used by you a lot when you are trying to explain to your TT buds why you bought this car.

Welcome to one of the best drivers Porsche ever created. Not fast when compared to many other Porsches, but well balanced. An unsung hero. I'm now biased, but I haven't always been!

Congrats...post some more pics! the 968 is definitely an excellent compliment to any car collection. The "record selling 968" has left a void in my heart...but thanfully Mr rggale above is taking sweet tender loving care of her! I think i remember you stopping by in the range rover to take a look at it!

Beautiful car! How long were you looking for such a clean example?
I'm new here but love your car.

Does anybody know if a large guitar case will fit in the rear?
Will it fit in the Cabriolet boot?

Thanks in advance,

Yogii

Thanks to all. Back in the day....I raced an E30 M3 and while not fast it was an amazing handling car. I always wanted to build a 968 for Porsche Club Racing but never got around to it. Power is great but useful power means more these days. While very fast hyper-cars are a lot of fun you can't really do much in them. I wanted a great handling, well balanced car that I can drive how I want without fear of losing my license every time I get in it.

I spent a long time looking for a 968. I actually bought a 944 Turbo S 2 years ago but the car was grossly misrepresented and, thankfully, the seller took the car back. The white car was an almost buy as I contacted the seller a few days after his post here went live. But I thought long and hard and decided I wanted to build something for me and I just didn't want white.

My biggest dilemma was/is if I should build a mild track car or a great street car. I think I am going street car as I really don't go to the track anymore and I already have a track car. I also want my kids to be able to enjoy going in it which is always a priority with little guys. Ok. Back to work!

Guitar case will not fit in the rear trunk area unless one of the back seats are down.

Thanks Speedvagen,

Is the same true for the convertible model? Is the convertible very flexi?

Thanks,

Yogii

Great looking 968! Suspension wise I'd just do the struts and shocks and perhaps the 968 M030 sway bars.

Very nice. I have guitars at home but the 968s are put away. Still, I would guess that a case would fit in a cab with the rear seats down.

Welcome and have fun! Jeff, I thought with a cab anything could fit, upright that is.

I did the mods Jason suggested, also StopTech drilled rotors, and a few other things (shock tower strut) and i can keep up with the TTs and GT3's around here on the twisties

After failing miserably at repairing the sunroof (completely give up!) I decided to tackle removing the 15 year old clear bra that has actually become a "hazy" bra that makes the car look awful. Have some glue to remove and some work with the polishing wheel but overall am very happy with the results. No peeled paint or deformities at all. Was quoted $900 for a shop to do this job. Took me 2 hours (so far). One great thing about removing this is the front bumper does not appear to be in need of a repaint. It is actually nearly flawless except for the bottom edge.
