Tiptronic Guru needed
My wifes car is a tiptronic. Mostly feels good but does the following:
When you put it in drive you see the light go from 1 to 2 before you even start moving.
From 2nd gear on things seem normal and responsive upshift/down shift.
When you come to a stop it never goes to first. Stops at 2nd. If you ever watched one of these you will know that it lights up the gear your in all the time.
The gate to the right for shifting yourself does not seem to work either. Perhaps I did not engage correctly but never seemed to be able to get into slapstick mode?
Thanks for any help.

This is all normal as the first gear is only there to improve strong acceleration, mostly from a stand still or at low speed. In tiptronic mode you should always start in 2nd unless you want to take off faster.
In automatic mode, the car will take off in second gear unless you press the trottle swiftly. If you do so you will then launch in 1st.
Now if in Tiptronic mode you cannot shift by yourself, this is not normal. Same thing happened to me. Had to change a module under the shifter lever if I recall. In the meantime the automatic side of the gate should still work fine.

yes, in selector lever pos. D the car starts in second gear, that's right.
When I bought my car from the previous PO, he told me, that the Tiptronic wouldn't work. But he didn't know, that it was only the unhinged micro switch, which prevented the switchover from Automatic to Tiptronic. Easy to fix.

WTF? Do tell Porsche, what is the tongue weight capacity of a tiptronic equipped 968? Can you use a 968 to tow your track 951?

OK, I got my center console off only to find that I might have a different model. It is an automatic Tiptronic but seems to have many fewer switches. It is a 1998 Boxster. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Erik

I suggest seeking for help in the Boxster forum.

PORSCHE 968 was made 1992-1995.
Porsche 986 was made 1996 and later.

The 968 Tiptronic is TOTAL different than the Boxter Tiptronic.
