VIN sticker on bumper?
I am in the market for a 3.6 Turbo. While looking at one car this weekend, I was told by the owner that all 964s (turbo and n/a) should have a vin sticker on the rear bumper behind where the license plate is mounted. In other words, with the license plate off the car you'd see it. This owner claims that if the sticker is not there it is a telltale sign the car's bumper, at least, has been repainted.
My '93 C2 did not have the VIN sticker (this is the sticker you see on fenders, etc., that id the part to that car) on it there and a 3.6T in FL that I've seen pictures of didn't have it either. My mechanic claims he has never seen this sticker there. So what's the truth? Do you who think you have original paint cars have this sticker? Adrian, is this fact in your book?
(which I've pre-ordered on Amazon, btw!).

I have a '92 C2 Turbo, and I do take off the rear plate all the time (for DMV tag). There is no VIN sticker there. My car is all 100% original with no repaint, replace of anything.

I have never heard of such a thing. It is certainly not in the official identification charts for the VIN location so no such thing is in my book.
I have never seen a VIN sticker under the rear number plate and I have seen many a 964 without plates.
What I do know is under the rear bumper is a hand written date which tells you when the body/chassis arrived "on" the production line.
Me thinks somebody is pulling your collective legs. Just think about it, how long would a sticker last under the number plate. It would be exposed to the elements for a start.

Nobody is pulling your leg. Every 3.6T that I looked at had this "sticker" behind the plate. It's more of a label with computerized digits (not hand written) on Porsche paper stating the VIN. This label/sticker looks as if it is under the clear coat. There are a few other places that this same label/sticker is on the rest of the car. I believe 3 more throughout. If I have time I will try to locate them for you.

L8, thanks for the pics. This is confusing as I've been sent another set of pictures from a car that claims original paint, etc. (15k miles) and it does not have the sticker...

Was it a 3.6t? The cars that I have looked at in the past had production dates of 9/93 10/93 and mine 11/93. Just an FYI.
Maybe they started putting these labels on later models. ??

Yes, it was a 3.6 (that's all I'm pursuing right now).
I looked at another car yesterday where the owner didn't want to take the license plate off to show me. "I don't want to start taking parts of the car unless you are interested in the car." So I told him I'd buy his car and he says, "I'm not sure I want to sell it." Ah the joy of buying/selling cars...

Mine has it. There is one located on the front bumper behind the right hand side marker on the underside of the front hood and the back lid, 1 in each door jam and I believe I have seen others. My car was built 5/93 MY94. They all are on PORSCHE paper around the outer edge with the vin number in the center dot matrix style. Mine are exposed paper no clear coat looks as though they were applied after paint. non-removable.

I check for the other locations today. Colbalt is correct in regards to the locations. The labels are not under the clear coat as I thought, it is just lamination.

That is a dealer delivery label not an official identification label. Obviously some dealers have left them on, others took them off. That is NOT an official Porsche identification label.

I looked at several turbo 3.6's before purchasing the one I have. All of them had these labels. There was one I looked at that was a theft recovery. the entire inside had been gutted. I saw some of these labels inside areas that are not normally accessible. Didn't think much of them at the time and can't remember the exact location. What would the purpose of these labels be?
