Default Was a Tiptronic Available on a C2T?

While checking on a part for my 91 C2T at the local dealer the other day, the parts guy asked me if my car was a Tiptronic. I told him I was pretty sure 965s never had Tiptronic transmissions but he insisted I was wrong. Well, who si right?

Porsche never offered any 911 turbos with Tiptronic up to now - they started recently with the 996 TT.

I knew I was correct. Pretty sad when the dealer doesn't know.

Justin,

a friend of mine - owner of a 1976 930 turbo 3.0, was also told by his OPC that his car was Tiptronic - in fact the porsche guy at the parts counter really insisted!

I just saw a ad. in the 911turbo.com section that says, an 81 930 Turbo with tilt steering wheels, front/side airbag.... LOL.

Dear Justin,
Neither the 965 TT nor the 964 Turbo were offered with Tiptronic. In fact the 965 TT never got past prototype stages.
If you read the PCA Panorama (November Edition) magazine or have read Excellence was Expected, recently released you will find the story of the 965.
Those on this board from a year or so ago will remember I alluded to this story but did not expand on it for obvious reasons. Karl Ludvigsen has fully investigated the 965 story and published it in his book which was published by my publishers www.bentleypublishers.com
Ciao,
Adrian
