Default Turbo 3.3

I'm considering finding myself a 90-92 Turbo 3.3. Is there anything in particular I should look out for in one? Also, how do they compare to the 3.6?

Id look for something as original and stock as possible.
Non molested.

The 964 turbo is essentially a modern 930. Better brakes and suspension. Better interior.
The engine makes more power. (altough, some would say it is a 930 engine with unessessary electronics and emmissions....)

The 3.6 would have the better brakes, wheels and engine, but they come with a large price tag compared to the 3.3L cars so you will need to ask yourself if it is worth the price of entry to you.

PPI is what you want on any car.

I have been maintaining my 964T over the last year. new Steering rack, new steering shaft, fixing oil leaks etc...

Just a FYI,... if you find a 1990 964 3.3 Turbo,... it will not be a US model.
It would have been imported by a private party/importer (into US) if you find a 1990, as Porsche did not get the 964T cleared for sale in US that year.

/\ /\ everything tcsracing said,... but I would also think that your budget will tell you whether you can keep the 1994 3.6 Turbo in your search. There is a large differential in pricing between the 3.3 & 3.6 in the 964 series.

Although I guess the 3.6 can be considered as having "better" brakes than the 3.3. I had 3.6 rotors on my 3.3 for the last decade, and just recently replaced them with correct part # 3.3 rotors. They are essentially the same just slightly larger surface area to accept a slightly larger pad. I'm guessing the improvements came in the Calipers. Btw, I still have the 3.6 rotors that I will eventually sell (they are still very meaty after measuring the thickness).

Here is a RL Thread that may also help you out....

Have fun!!

Stock 3.3's are not really super fast so if acceleration performance is your thing, find one that is modded.

Re: brakes...front rotors increased from 304mm to 322mm and were paired with [IIRC] medium black [928 S4] Brembo calipers.

Re: suspension...coil springs replaced torsion bars at each corner.

You can make a 3.3 as fast as a stock 3.6 or faster with a few items which will improve turbo lag.

Boost spring (increase boost), adjust CO% ratio, aftermarket headers, remove the catalytic converters.

Thanks all for your input. I know the market for 3.6 and doesn't seem it will be able to feasible for me at this moment.

Those are the apparent differences. Depending on MY comparison the list grows but the 3.3 964 is similar to the 930 especially the last year G50 model. Passenger air bag was also standard.

The biggest change was the 80%-new architecture of the body, which allowed for improved HVAC as well as the suspension changes.
In actual fact, that makes the 965 substantially different than the 930. They only share a powertrain.

I agree I was trying not to be my normal argumentative self.

My '91 has been an incredible car (although I've owned it just shy of 4 yrs) - I'm at 88,000 miles and I just get in it and drive. Is it perfect? No. Does have a small annoying oil leak onto the exhaust which will get fixed this year...this spring...and the flywheel sensor connector broke shortly after getting the car - but other than that...just turn the key and drive. And drive it hard. Great car.

Get one.

I have a client that has a really nice '91 he is considering selling. Has the external engine mods, original black and under 30k miles. Cherry original car with all books papers receipts toolkit compressor etc.
No idea of price prob won't be the cheapest option out there or most expensive either. If you want his info send me a pm. Cole

I'm not 100% yet but I think its the cam seal - and I'm debating whether to do it myself or not. Considering the cam timing procedure - which is a little intimidating - if I can't find somebody local with the tools and some BTDT who is willing to help me - I'll probably suck it up and pay a shop....

The seal at the back of the engine, behind the power steering pump takeoff?
I thought you replaced that.
