Default Anyone Running Bilstein With Red H&R Lowering Springs?

I wanted to know how low you can get the car to sit with this setup? I had the springs on my old 91 but it still ran the stock struts and shocks and it sat pretty low.

Now I have a set of Bilstein with the same springs to install on my new 91 but read the threads are shorter then the stock struts.

Anyone with this setup that can post a picture how low their car sits? Thanks

B- Where did you source your Bilsteins? On my first 993, I got a set of Bilstein from Gert. They came with extra thread on the front collars to go down pretty low. The black 993 on my sig pic is sitting on Bilsteins sourced from US vendor. They don't have the extra threading so this is as low as I can get mine to sit with the red H&Rs. The rears can go another 15-20 mm but fronts are maxed out.

I got the kit from Tirerack. I hope I'll be able to get it to sit as low as my old one. I can't remember how low I had the collar set on my old car.

Your front looks 10-15mm lower than mine. Rear is close.

The first picture was as low as I could go with the Bilstein and H&R reds. Ran out of thread. I have since switched to H&R cup and I am currently running RS height about 20 mm lower.

Cobalt,

Your car is amazing, love the color. I think I could live with the height of the 1st picture. How low did you have the rear turned down?

To make sure you can go as low as you want, the threads should go right down to the tab for the brake line on the fronts. The rears will follow suit.
When I bought my car, it was as low as Anthony's. The ride was very harsh so I raised it to RS height as detailed in Streather's book.

I plan on turning them all the way down until they stop The only thing I need to decide is if I want to remove the brake lines or just cut a slot and twist the hanger to get the brake lines in and out.

The brake lines on my black car would not come off and I just ended up twisting them and needed to replace them, what a pain.

They are cheap from Porsche, cheaper if you bend them yourself.

Just remember it is not about turning them down as low as they can go. Depending on the car and other settings proper corner balancing may not allow them to be set to the lowest setting. Final adjustments may dictate that one side or both be set higher than the lowest they can go.

Here is a 94 C4 widebody (same suspension as our turbos) I should have purchased a few months back Not sure if you can tell by these pictures but it sat a little higher than my turbo with the same H&R red and Bilstein suspension. It is hard to tell but optimal settings required the front right side to be 3/8" above the lowest thread vs the other side which was at its lowest position. The car handled well for a C4.

Yeah, I concur. I run the lowest ride height, which is essentially RS spec, with a proper corner balance.

Thanks for the info. Out of all four of the turbo cars I've owned I've never had any of them corner balanced.

That is up to you, every Porsche I have owned I have had corner balanced and IMO is worth doing.
