I asked him if a comp/leakdown test had been done, absolutely not was the reply.

He didnt seem to think this was necessary at all, what say you?

It's data but not the end-all, be-all, definitive test that it's made out to be.
It will detect a ring issue (not 100% of the time) or a valve sealing issue like a bent valve. It will not detect valve guide wear, however, which is the #1 issue with the 911 engine.

Well how scary $$ is a valve guide wear issue?

My 355 gives me nightmares in the repair cost world.

Depends on how extensive you want the repair to be. Top end only or full rebuild.
About 1/3 of what it would cost to do a Ferrari.
I'd be real surprised if a 45k mile Turbo would need valve guides, however.

17k should give you reseal and replacement of all worn guides on this motor.

Beautiful car! I like it.

Question though: Adrian Streather's Book shows 1,992 Turbo 3.3s produced for the US in 1991. An additional 2298 were ROW. Does that make sense?

I know most other sources seem to agree that 3660 Turbo 3.3s were produced -- US and ROW. Any authoritative source you guys know?

My book shows 2288 + 674 US for a total of 2962. RE: ProductionCars.com

Fred,

Those numbers do seem more reasonable. Did the VINs start at 0011 in the 964 Turbo as well (explaining the 10 unit difference in ROW?)?

As for the 1,992 US models sold...Perhaps a typo??? The range of VIN numbers in Adrian's book agrees with 674.

My book does not show VIN's start. Check out all the years

1991 Turbo – 2,288 + 674 U.S. Spec - 2962 Total
1992 Turbo – 836 + 309 U.S. Spec + 80 Turbo “S” - 1225 Total
1993 Turbo – 650 + 288 U.S. Spec - 938 Total
1994 Turbo 3.6 – 260

So, total production of 5385 Turbo's around the world. Less than 1500 in U.S. Spec.
