EZ69 wanted (maybe)
Guys-
Been dealing with a stall/no start for the apst few days - have a thread over on PP:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-9...t-running.html
so I'll save all the details - long story short I might be looking for an EZ69? Anybody have one from an EFI or aftermarket ignition conversion? Or maybe your car is down for a long time and have one you can loan just so I can verify mine is bad??
It probably makes sense in the long run to swap over to an aftermarket ignition I just don't know if it want to deal with that right now....
Let me know - thanks

Brandon, in 11 years of ownership I have had three problems with my engine, all electrical and all cheap to fix.
1. Engine cutting out for a split second - fix was to fix a new earth to the rear fuse tray
2. Start but no power i.e. stumble when cold - fix was to solder a new relay in the Turbo Control Unit under the seat. The problem with the box was identified by swapping one from a known working car.
3. Stumble under boost is torrential rain - fix was to spray the distributor cap with CRC 556.
My advice is not to panic. Don't assume. Work methodically. If at all possible find another turbo you can swap parts out of.

Thanks guys. Not panicing...yet :-) Just a little bummed - been driving the car a lot and its been running great until this.
So - is there a way to test the EZ other than swapping in a known good?
I'd be forever grateful if somebody had one to loan for testing purposes.

hi,
don´t read your pp thread, but has your workshop checked the flywheel sensor? there will be no spark if the EZ69 gets an incorrect signal or the signal is missing.
easy to check if you´ve got an oscilloscope.

Jeff - yep that's it. Thanks.
Fritz- my shop is me...so far :-) I plan to check the flywheel reference sender tonight or Saturday.
OK NEW DEVELOPMENT:
I talked to BBA Reman - a worldwide company with an office in Massachussetts who repairs all sorts of electronics -
http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx
they say they _do_ repair this part. (I gave them the Bosch P/N) Said they've done a few. They provide a _lifetime_warranty_ to the person who pays for the repair. $530. Or if you send it to them and they find nothing wrong its just a $35 + shipping diagnostic fee. For somebody who is not ready to swap ignition systems or go EFI - this just might make sense.
Any BTDT with this or this company??

If it is indeed the ez unit you might want to man up and get a better replacment.

Apparently these cars really wake up down low and purr when ya go EDIS with better timing curves.

While I agree w ap to some degree, I'd be tempted to just have it rebuilt.
There is another co that also rebuilds cdi boxes and the like. I'll get u the name.

I do think ignition can be improved with that kit, or an MSD kit, or what have you. But then full EFI is even better. And.... But that is not my goal with this car. My last car - a very rare 1984 Audi Quattro (65 imported that year) - I did a motor swap to a newer better more powerful engine (which involved custom fab, new wiring harness, Euro parts), re-painted the car, upgraded the lighting, suspension, transmission, gauges, interior blah blah blah you name it I made it more better. I was always messing with _something_. Always trying to make it better. I do enjoy that - have to admit. But this car - I'm (almost :-) fine with it as-is (stock but for suspension and cat bypass). I really just want to increase boost as high as 1.0 bar tops, and do a WUR and call it good. I don't want to tear into the car putting in new upgraded systems right now. I just want to enjoy driving it... So that is where I'm coming from :-)
That said I'm very tempted to send the EZ in to this company - and am definitely leaning in that direction - but if I can install a known good first - so I _know_ that is the problem it would be even better. I would hate to have them "fix" it only to get it back and still no start for some reason....
Thanks guys -
