I am looking for brake ducts to my 964 turbo -91.

What vendors provides these ?
Pictures would be really nice!
Is the installation difficult ?

Thanks

The ones i was looking at are as per the attached picture.

You can find them in the techart catalogue or at the website as follows.

<a href="http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache:uuoHsq_vkEsC:www.techart.de/Techart_Katalog%2520964%2520Englisch/Brake_cooling2.htm+techart+964+fog+lights&hl=en&ie=UTF-8" target="_blank">web page</a>

I think these add the best of both worlds that you keep the fog lights and also get the air cooling to brakes. Only issue is price in tyhe UK is expensive. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

Thumbs up

This is the website of a chap who installed ducts and all the pipework in a C4 and had some problems.

Stories in the normal 964 forum. Not sure if we would have the same problem with the T2 but worth considering.

<a href="http://home.attbi.com/~jbalthasar/cbf.htm" target="_blank">web page</a>

If done properly seems to have benefits otherwise may be more trouble than its worth.

My own concerns were mainly with the cosmetic look for the front of the car. The cooling of brakes being an extra bonus. Looking at this site though things do not appear that simple.

Do you want ducts for functionality or for show? If only for show, the TechArt units might be the best as they give you the look together with a fog light. If for air flow functionality, either the units used in the Type 964 3.8 RS or 3.8 RSR are the best commercially available other than the units pictured below which have an even wider opening and are made of lightweight carbon fiber (lighter than the material from which the factory units were made). If you want superior brake cooling, none of the commercially available hose/fender well mounted ducts setups (TechArt, Cargraphic, Ruf, etc.) are terribly good. Instead, buy the factory air cooling units including interior fender well catch ducts, large diameter hose and wheel carrier mounted deflectors.

Patrik, do you remeber what brand Podium Racing was offering us (Car Graphics I think, but the email is gone since my computer crashed).

69COU, thanks for the picture and the link.

Robert, it's for functionality (but it has to look good and not cost a fortune).

My brakes are getting to hot at track events. I have to bleed the brakes after each event. I tried a couple different brake fluids (including Castrol SRF now using "Castrol Super dot" something), without solving the problem. Also heard that getting rid of the "protection metall plate" behind the front rotors might help, anyone tried that ?

A new fender could be an option, I guess that it won't come cheap?, but worth looking into.
I know Farzaan had a go on different ones, would be great if you could tell us about your experience.

The 964 RS/RSR brake ducts sounds like a good option, will look into that ?

Vincent, I remeber looking at your break ducts when we met (not saying we shouldn't meet anyway). Do you know what brand they are ?

Order from Porsche Motorsports Europe the brake cooling set up used in the Type 964 3.8 RSR -- this is the overall best solution.

If you are looking for better braking, have you tried race compond pads? The street compond pads are not the best on the track. Also I think there are titainium pistions and or heat sheilds that Smart Products makes that should help w heat transfer.

The factory set up is not an easy job and requires cutting. (the pictures referenced above is not it)

Don't buy the fiber glass copys in some of the adds. I did and returned them because of the quality and finishing work involved.

I installed the factory RSR ducts ($300)in my car for more air to the oil cooler (and for look)so I did not get the full "brake" kit ($600+). The factory ones are molded plastic and I did not have to do any prep to paint them.

You have to cut a slot in the bumper so the tab from the duct can be inserted. A a screw holds the other side. However, there in no provision for the screw to mount so I had to fab a block that mounted between the two existing bolts, then I cut the tabs off the back of the duct so it could mount flush on top of the block, last I put finsh screw into a hole I made in the mounting block.

You can then use a hole saw to cut an opening behind the ducts for air to the Oil cooler & a/c condenser.

If I did it again I wouldn't have painted my ducts (black) and would have got a set of black rings for the head lites so it would look like the factory RSR's.

This will make more sence to you if you try it.

Engin Builders Supply had the part numbers and offered to get me a set but I fould mine on ebay...
