Post 1991 Turbo S

I ran across a car for sale in Geneva Switzerland that the garage is calling a Turbo S. Does anyone have any data on this type of car -- How many produced? What differentiates it from the 1991 Turbo? Value for one in good condition?
Any owner experience out there?

thanks

Try the search links at <a href="http://www.911turbo.com" target="_blank">www.911turbo.com</a> for a link to O'Connell something in the UK. Good historical info on all year turbos.

Here's another link to cut and paste in:

<a href="http://www.0-100.it/porsche/964/turbos33/turbos_engl.html" target="_blank">http://www.0-100.it/porsche/964/turbos33/turbos_engl.html</a>

If it's a true "S", it's rare and expensive.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply and for the website references. I will check it out today but couldn't find any information on the factory codes that would suggest this was the real thing.
This car doesn't have any script on the rear deck lid but this could be suppressed at the time of order I would guess.

Being a light-weight version, I think the original owner may have deleted that!

Good Luck

I don't have the VIN#'s but you can check the engine type. It sould be M30/69SL. You can see the engine type # stamped on the block by looking down on the block on the right side of the fan with a flashlight. Also check the vehicle weight sticker it should be 2844 lbs and use a magnet to check for the composite body panel parts - see below (the magnet won't stick).

OTHER INFO:

80 cars built. Special order car. Weight 2844 lbs. Recaro sport seats, cloth door pulls, wind-up windows, no rear seats, no radio, thinner rear and side window glass, simplified wiring harness, composite doors, engine lid, and trunk lid. Whale tail rear wing, air scoops in rear fender, and air intakes replace driving light in front spoiler (bumper). Stiffer suspension. Speedline for Porsche 3 piece 18" wheels.

Dear Michael,
I know of two Turbos which had the 355 HP engine kits installed and then were advertised over the internet as Turbo Ss. Both were being sold in Zuerich at the time. You have to be very careful. The Turbo S has some unique features which can only be looked at, up close and personal. Only 80 or so were built. I know where a few are including 2 in Malaysia. Most went to or are now in collectors hands. A genuine Turbo S will rarely come up for sale outside of major collector auctions.
Moral of this story is, unless you can prove otherwise, it is a fake. Tough stand yes but it will make sure you do not get ripped off.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: What differentiates it from a standard Turbo. Basically the Turbo S is a Turbo body bolted onto a RS chassis with a 381 HP specially built motor in the rear. The RS bit being the clue to check for. Speedline for Porsche 18 inch wheels is also another clue. These wheels are so expensive and so rare to find a full genuine set that the converters often overlook this detail.
