Question Removing the intercooler

How difficult (and usefull) is it to remove the intercooler (to clean the engine) ? The hoses which are connected to the intercooler, do they content fluid ? Or is the intercooler only air/air ?
I know the question sounds silly ,but in some cases I think it would be handy to remove the thing.

Regards
(And yes, I know the 911 is aircooled...!) <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

It's very easy to remove the intercooler. It's all air no fluids. Simply replace as found. Make sure to get the sealed hoses on properly so there are no air leaks. Some people use a thin layer of vaseline or silicone lube to create a better seal.

Oscar, I wrote an instruction on how to remove the intercooler, it has disapered from my computer but with a little bit of luck Sonny still has it in his email.

It's not very difficult, things to think about:
- There is an electric plug underneath the intercooler, easy to miss
- There are 3 bolts holding it in place, just losen the right and left bolt, the middle one is the only one that needs to be taken out.
- It's tricky to get a good seal between the throttle body and intercooler. Do a search on this board and you will get lots of good advice from fc-racer and others on this subject. You need lots of light and lots of patience to make sure it's a good seal.

Staffan,

Sorry , I don't have it any more. I missplaced it somewhere. If you ever found yours, please email it to me. I might need it some day.

Thanks,

Sonny

The key to any work is having the right tool. For this job, I'd highly recommend a 13 mm swivel socket. Not the adjustable joint but an actual 13 mm swivel. It's worth going to Sears and just buying the one. You can have the intercooler, AC pump, and air box off in less then 30 minutes!
