Help 1991 or 1994?
Guys,
I'm considering a 911 Turbo and I really like the look of the 964. Is there any real reason to pay significantly more for a 1994 3.6 vs a low mileage 91?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Carboy,
The '94 3.6 Turbo is considered to be the last of the breed of the single Porsche Turbo. As compare to the '91 - '92, they are differ mainly with the 18" 3-piece Speedline wheels, 355HP, 7.5:1 CR and a lot more torque, 385lb/ft, to help with drivability.
It's also fairly rare. At the prices that are out there today, I think it is a good buy for the money. I see a lot more 3.6 Turbo ads right now then ever before, however.
I have a '92, and I think it is even rarer than the '94, only 309 made for North America, and I don't see any forsales right now. If you are a hot-rodder, you will mod your car after a while, then I would go with a '91 or '92 and spend some of the left over money on mods to make it even better than the 3.6.
Either way, you will love both cars. It comes down to your budget. Go drive them both if you can and make your decision. You can't go wrong.
Good luck,
Sonny Vo
ps: I have a few articles about these cars when they were new on my website.

If you have the money for a 3.6T, get a 993T instead. It's a heck of a lot more car for not much more money over a 3.6T.
Out here, a nice 3.6T goes for C$85-90k, a good 993T goes for C$110-115k. There was someone who posted about a car from France on the 993 Turbo board who is selling his car for around C$85k. That's a steal!

The 3.6s I have seen are in the $70k range and the C2Ts around $50-60k. The 993TT will be $85-95k. Just observations I have made in looking at classifieds. I think I would PREFER the 3.6 over the 993TT because of the awd, it just doesn't appeal to me in the least, sort of a band-aid for the less competant driver. It is confirmed in my mind by the introduction of the 996 GT2. Go for the 3.6.

The 3.6 engine block is the foundation for every serious prosche production motor to date - right up to the current 2002 996 GT-2. The 3.3 is a solid motor but is an older design. If you want any easy to upgrade solid engine that will kick your *** get the 3.6. You will not be sorry you spent the extra $$.
