Angry Vibration at high speed

Driving yesterday I noticed for the 1st time a vibration on the front wheels when doing above 140km/h. I didn't have time to check tire pressure or anything. Before I start to call my mechanic and before it starts to cost me I wanted to ask you all if you had any experience of this or ideas of what it could come from (tire pressure, wheels paralelism etc..)
Thanks a lot

Cheers <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

Maybe you lost one or more wheel weights.

I thought about it but I am sorry to say I am not much of a technician <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
How do I check it myself ?
Thanks

The first thing to check (after basic checks on tyre pressures and condition) is to get the wheels balanced. Doesn't cost much and can make a *huge* difference to the feel. Definitely the one to do first. It eliminated my high speed vibration.

Good advices and also check the torque on your front wheels. Don't use the impact air gun on your wheel's lug nuts. The correct value is 94 ft/lbs.

And make sure your balencing shop uses the hunter gsp 9700! It applies a road force to the tire to better simulate real world conditions.

I had a bad vibration from 50-70 mph and it went away beautifully afterwards.

Thanks for your comments. Turned out it was only my wheels that needed rebalancing, both front and rear. Bad news is that when I saw the inside of my rear tires I had a chock, they are simply gone

If your rear tires are worn on the inside, you will have to check the alignment also, at least the rear.

When was the last time the car had an alignment?

Sonny

I have some camber on the back wheels so that may explain things. But good idea, it must be a while since wheel alignement was checked (I have owned the car for 1 month only)
