Smile 964 Turbo 17" Cup Wheels To sell or Not

Having just spent a small fortune on getting a set of original 18" speedlines/ refurbing them + new tyres I may be tempted to sell my 17" cup wheels. Very good front Tyres 6mm tread and half warn backs 3mm tread.

A set recently went for £640 on ebay so I suppose that probably reflects the UK market rate.
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2417428579&category=10408&rd=1" target="_blank">Ebay set</a>

However I do not know if i should just store them in case I ever sell the car that way I could keep or sell the speedlines seperately. (More thinking though if I sold my car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> it would only be be in order to get a 964T 3.6 if i find the right car and have the funds at that time)

Choices Choices

What would you do? To sell or not to sell

I also thought about putting the 17" back on in winter when car is sometimes used in wet damp weather ( Slightly thinner tyres etc may be safer in wet?)and would also save the Speedlines future corrossion.

Last option perhaps just use the 17" Cups for track days as not so worried about tyres. Could probably get a good few track sessions out of them?

By the way I shall post few pics of car with new Speedlines fitted (Gary my normal email is down at present changing domain hosts)

If anyone is interested a friend of mine has a set of RUF speedline 17" wheels that he is thinking about selling No tyres but are from a wide body turbo.
He works in a garage and somebody replaced them to fit a set of 19" wheels and tyres to the car about 4 years back. Never came back to collect original rims. Apparantly do not fit the non wide body models.

Has anyone just remembered the rims they lost about 4 years ago as they had better be quick to go back and claim them before he sells them?
I have only seen one of the rims but they are 4. if need be I may be able to obtain sizes.

I would keep the wheels. I used to sell old set of wheels and tires to finance new set of wheels and tires, and lost big money big time.

If you ever sell your Turbo, it is better to sell with original wheels. Your Turbo 3.6 wheels worth a whole lot more by themselves, as you already know from purchasing them. I would only sell the Cup wheels if I were in need of cash quick. Just my opinion.

I would keep them as well, we just got a set of 18's for the 965 and I'm going to keep the Cup wheels and use the rears on the front of my 951 (9's all around on her)...

Anyway even if I wasn't going to use them I would keep them, and in the end I plan to refurbish them to as they were delivered from the factory, just so I can get the car back to all original if I so choose down the road. Nice to have that option, and if you ever sell the car, sell it with the stockers and sell the Speedlines on the side....

BTW, the wheels on the 965 were delivered in Lime Green from the factory, so even if the 965 is not the only moss green on produced (which I think it may be) it surely is the only Moss Green 965 delivered with Lime Green Wheels....

Cheers guys - I think you have confirmed what i thought that it would be best to hold onto original 17" cup wheels.

Here is a quick picture of car taken with the new 18" polished Speedlines.
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/newtoys005.jpg" alt=" - " />

I fitted a set of Bridgestone S03s to the speedlines and these seem to be quite a soft rubber as the ride quality is in my opnion even smoother than the original 17" wheels ( Toyo T1-S tyres) dispite the lower profiles.

Might be that tyre technology is that much better or just me justifying in my own mind the costs of this upgrade.

Very nice.

Are you wheels polished, or chrome?

I've just changed tires to Yokohama ES100. It is the best budget tires in stock sizes, or so I am told.

I am going for a long drive to test it out.

Regards,

Sonny

These are the OE polished versions as were fitted to the 3.3 turbo S.

I had them referbished by PWS uo near Blackpool who sent them to Germany to be done. Really good job. The only issue with refurbishment of these wheels is that you lose the
"Speedline for Porsche" lettering on the rim.

I would keep them. I bought a set of the Speedlines for my C2 Cab and kept the 17" cup wheels. When I sold the car, the 17's were on it and I sold the Speedlines for a profit.

The Speedlines are rare and worth much more separately than on a car, unless it is on the 3.6 Turbo.
