Default WTB- 91 911 Turbo

Hello everyone,

I was referred here by a good friend. I am in the market for a clean 91 turbo. I've seen a few on Autotrader. Thought it might be better to check here and buy something straight from an enthusiast. This will be my first Porsche purchase. I live in Minnesota. So, I plan on either shipping the car up here or driving it home

What things should I be looking for besides having a compression test done? I'm looking to spend around $40,000 all said and done with all the bells and whistles. I'm sure I can get a pretty solid turbo for that as it seems like this is about the going rate.

Can anyone point me to some notable turbos that are forsale?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yea I would think you could find a decent 91 for 40k. Compression test is good. Check for oil leaks many will have some seepage but you dont want too much. Age seems to play as much a maintenance item as high mileage so just remember your getting into a 20 year old "supercar". Hoses get brittle and seals start going bad.
Do you plan on doing the maintenance yourself???
Parts are semi-expensive but these cars are not too expensive if you do the maintenance yourself and they are fairly easy to work on.
Check everything to make sure it all works.
Aircon blows cold and hoses have no seepage or oily spots on them.
Steering has no clunking or play as the U joint can go bad.
Listen for a rattling or clunking when going around a tight corner in gear with no throttle applied (to check the limited slip isnt getting worn out)
No whining from the gearbox.
Make sure it has a good service history.

Thanks for the replies and info everyone. Am a little weary of buying a car off of ebay. Have never done that. Would really like to pick one up off of a loyal caretaker where I'll know most of the history of the car. At least, if I find one out of state, I would like to pay a porsche specialist to go and check the car out for me and run some tests on it. Doesn't seem like there are many turbos in MN. and the ones that are, are not being sold.

Hi ginch - I see that you have an .:R32. Were you on the tex?

Sold my beast over a year ago. Picked up a B6 S4 as a daily. Now looking for a 91 turbo for some fun

I got mine off ebay, ended up being a pelican guy and a rennlister as well. Before I knew that fact I had gone to check out the car before buying while learning some tips here on rennlist beforehand

Here is mine which i would gladly sell it to you but i also know i can't live with out her either.. We have been together almost 9 years and not a single day goes by when i don't admire her...
Find a nice one and keep it for ever..My 9 year old frequently goes to the garage and sits in the car just to smell the leather.. He loves the car..

So you are looking for a black one with black interior? I would rather have the "molested one". I do not recognize either of the two.

I've kind of gone back and forth with color. Silver first, which seems to be harder to find, then black.

I think I really want red though

You will love the turbo I know I sure do. I got my start with VW and still use one as a daily driver.

I've had two Porsche turbo's, the 1st was a 86 930 and like a jack*** sold it because I really never drove it but going into the garage and not seeing it anymore just broke my heart so I search for a replacement and found a Black 91 in great shape and the PPI checked out great so I bought it

Old 930

91 Turbo I'm installing the same style of wheels that I had on my old 930, they are being refinished as we speak.
