Default Seeking a Porsche 964 3.3 Turbo. Help & advice would be nice.

Hi guys!

At the minute we are seeking a 964 3.3 turbo, and possibly going to view a few these next coming months. Can any of you guys suggest any tips when viewing such car?

With this sort of age car now, there will be cars which have covered a few miles on the clock, and the service history and doccuments will be stacked to the hilt! The usual gearbox, clutch, possibly an engine rebuild will be checked. But cars covering over 100k miles, without a rebuild is'nt a problem is it?

The sort of flagship car will obviously demand larger expensive bills, but would you say these are near bulletproof if well maintained?

I would like to know if the turbos are reliable, what sort of signs and problems these cars have.

I apologise if this question has been asked before many-a-times on here, but need as much help as possible.

Thanks

Norm

I doubt that very many with lots of miles have comprehensive service records.

Here's a few potential issues you may see on a high mileage car:

1. Climate control stuff/motors going bad up to $1000
2. Replace all fuel tank hoses (fuel smell in trunk) $400
3. A/C recharge or repair up to $2000
4. Windshield aperture rust up to $2000
5. Rebuild LSD up to $3000
6. Top end up to $5000

I think the biggest expense would be if the turbo control unit or the EZ69 ignition module would go bad. Those things take forever to troubleshoot and the factory does not stock replacements.

Mine has climate control great working condition, my hoses are all replaced, no windshield rust, I do not know about the LSD but it feels fine, and top end done couple years back and it has 104k miles on it and I have too many service records throughout its life and it is also for sale, then again you are in UK though good luck in your search

Which UK car are you going to see? I see you are on 911UK too, you may like to try Pistonhead also as it is by far the busiest UK Porsche forum!

It has been for sale for a long time now Norm, someone from PH's went to see it but didn't think much of it, but you can't buy much of a 964t for 20k or less though can you?

Hey Rod, trust you would be here too!ha

Say would you be able to dig out the thread? Would be interesting to find out what this guy has to say.

Read mine on 911uk, as I did go and see the car. As you said, it had been up for ages mainly I think due to high miles for one thing 158k miles, and little irritating things which can be rectified, but to the purist, its a no no! Ie the Techart wheels, the Clearcoat laquer on the whole of the body, even over the clear stoneguard rear arch spats! and a little lift on the paint on the whaletail and a bubble on the tail lid.

Sir,

I am not mechanic saavy at all. Only real serious problem the car had was the WUR which I replaced and had BRIAN LEASK uprade it. After replacing the wur it runs way better and it runs great. Sounds really good. It used to be my daily driver and I can still drive it daily but I need to drive a diesel truck for my job now. This car has some class, it has more experience than a car that has been sitting in a garage most of its life :P (thats right you garage queen holders)

I will try to get some pics on it soon.
