Default 1991 Ruf EVO

Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing my first 964 turbo. Being in New Zealand there are not many for sale but this one looks very interesting http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=269414799

Does any one know anything about the Ruf models? I'm guessing maintenance will be the major problem with this car as I imagine parts may be hard to come by.

Any advice or info would be appreciated

hmhmhm, i´m not that familiar with Ruf model history, but a.f.a.i.r the 964 RCT Evo´s are narrow body cars with EFI engines, based on M64.01.

the car posted seems to me like a 3.3 turbo with original CIS and some Ruf goodies.

i would try to check by VIN whether the car is known in Pfaffenhausen.

Agree it looks nice. I was going to view it a couple of years ago and then discovered it has an interesting history.

Somewhere I have a picture of that car stuck on the middle island on a Wellington motorway. I`ll look for it later, but the picture says it all really.

I suspect that a genuine RUF wouldn't be sporting an Andial filter housing. Website pictures aren't that great either.

If its for real, can't get much better. RAC in Dallas had an RCT Evo for sale back in January, I think a 'Lister bought it.

That's NOT a filter housing, it's the intercooler. Efficiency, not tags, is what matters. That Andial cooler as installed by Andial on the 964 turbo is the Porsche Motorsport unit. Look at it carefully, it is thicker than the standard Porsche 964 intercooler and it is FAR MORE efficient than either the Sstock Porsche or Ruf cooler.

After the car rolled on its self and ended up in the middle of the motorway (crashed by the dealer at the time, i beleive), it was then rebuild using a number of parts from a damaged car in the states.

Not when you're trying to determine if the vehicle is a genuine RUF. And again, I've never seen a RUF vehicle use Andial parts whatever they may be. The RUF tag usually adds a premium to a Porsche vehicle.

But, thanks for pointing out that the ANDIAL sticker is on the cooler. Well done.

The car's also got a K & N air filter (or at least a K & N sticker), much better than OEM.

Andial was a VERY big deal for many years in USA Porsche racing etc. Large presence in California and beyond. Essentially Porsche Motorsport in USA. Regarding use of Andial part on Ruf cars, why not? The 964 intercooler is considerably different than what most people are familiar with on the earlier 930 factory and Ruf cars. Much more efficient; the Andial cooleris even better as it was the thicker core version of the Porsche factory cooler and used on the USA 964 turbo raced so successfully in the early '90s. Putting an Andial intercooler on a Ruf car doesn't turn it into chopped liver, just a better car. Bolt on, bolt off.

At least 12 turbo 3.6 in NZ and probably more 3.3s so just patience needed. Think the words above are correct I.e. A car with history. I would keep on looking.

that car is a mess.
(old) style ruf seats and molested interior
techart brake cooling ducts/fog lights
996 style gear ****
big reds (probably painted stock black ones)
painted turbo S rear spoiler
front splitter
some after market exhaust system
I wonder if the polished speedlines are original.

If you like all these things it's okay. But I would be pretty carefull with this one.

Ring Giltraps Prestige, speak to the Porsche boys, to save disappointment.

This car and the blue convertible on trademe were imported by them andWELL known by them........

That car looks to really be a RUF conversion possibly, in '91 a 6spd was a rare item ,only RUF offered
this option..
As for it having any accident damage that could easily be determined but I'd hate to discount it for hear-say...
