yep - correction on the RS Guide Tube - 950.116.813.30
I've never heard of a 'special' Porsche pressure plate made in Italy - please point me to a source.

Porsche OEM Clutch parts are from Sachs (OEM german supplier) , thus 964.116.028.53 = Sachs 3082213031

This version 996.116.027.51 (996TT/GT2/GT3) = Sachs 3082213136 was recommended.

I ended up buying the Flywheel and Ring Gear from Patrick.
Balancing the entire package part sounds good (doesn't hurt) but not mandatory IMHO.

So I have to assume that your car runs ok as is?

I forgot to mention the Sachs kit includes the correct throwout bearing needed for the conversion.

Throwout bearing needed is 944.116.080.01 = Sachs 3151227001

a ez69 needs to read 3 signals, and a 964 n/a motronic car needs to read 60 signals, the three long notches in the pics of the new flywheel from patricks is what the ez needs to read, made the mistake of putting the carrera rs flywheel in a 964 turbo it will not run...should buy a proper flywheel or you have to change the signal .....sl951 shows that in the first pic of the flywheel....us 964 turbo guys are special, we get an odd ball flywheel along with an igition box that is one of a kind...

Have not done this yet but will as soon as I get back from the Monterey Historics. Getting ready for this race event has consumed massive amounts of time and money!

Default made in italy

my 964 turbo made 460hp to the wheels...when i first got the car together, the clutch would not hold, the pressure plate was a 964 116 028 53 that came in a sachs box. it would slip on hard acceleration, got the same part # from porsche and this pressure plate is much stronger in clapping force....if your car is running just a few mods the aftermarket pressure plate will hold and patrick makes a nice kit, i was forced to go to this p/p.....vinnie

Vinnie, that makes sense now. The 965 needs to sense engine speed, throttle position, intake air temp and vacuum/boost to generate a signal for the EZ unit. Dumb system. Motronic uses the 60 -1 tooth configuration to sense crankshaft position as well as engine speed, which is a more modern method (except that the ignition isn't distributor-less).
Thanks for the clarification.
How were you able to achieve 460 WHP?

I'm not expecting 460 WHP with my CIS. Perhaps more like 400WHP. Huh, first time I've seen the Italy label.
The PP that I got seems to be popular with the 996TT conversions over on other forums.
I'll soon find out if I like it.

Something strange I came across in the Bentley 964 Technical manual - It says to only install 1 shim on the release bearing when mounting on the pressure plate instead of the common 2 shims. The C2/C4 gets 2 shims on the release bearing.

Why would the Turbo get 1 shim??

The Bentley manual is not error-free (for example, it gives the torque spec for CV joint to transaxle flange at 50% of true value). If anyone has the factory manual for the Turbo (which is as rare as our cars, it seems), we can verify this.

I'll going to use both shims...

But does anyone know the reason behind two shims? Since you stack the shims them together, why not just have a single thicker version?

What was the final result on the parts combination tu put up a LWFW combo:

1. Pressure Plate = 996.116.027.51
2. Clutch = 996.116.015.30 = 996.116.015.31= 996.116.015.32
3. Throwout bearing = 944.116.080.01
4. Spline grease.
5. RS Starter Ring gear = 964.114.143.31
6. RS Guide Tube = 950.116.813.30
7. Pilot Bearing 931.102.111.00
8. Shorter Flywheel Bolts

Was this combiation fully compatible and was the Pressure Plate up to the task? My mechanic has doubts about this pressure plate. I will be running 450 rwhp.
