would still like the vin #...looking close at the floor in front of the drivers seat is 964 tub, the position of the brake calipers also shows to be 964/965...the rear caliper is on the front side of the wheel, the front caliper is on an upward angle instead of 90 degrees, and the calipers are smooth with no allens facing outward....a vin can tell me build date, eng type, trans type and all options....this is interesting.....vinnie

This is what it is according to a vin decoder I found somewhere....

Model 930 - Manufacture Year 1988
Turbo Coupé (RoW spec)
3.3-Ltr, Flat 6-Cyl, 5-Spd Std, Continuous F.I Bosch K-Jetronic
Vehicle Type Designation: 3rd digit (930 - 911 turbo/(S/SE flachbau 3.3 Ltr 330bhp))
Serial Number 0078 is the Production/Sequence/Chassis Number

it seems rather odd that the serial number would be 0078 if it was a 930 and produced in 1988..... no?

i come up with a 1988 930 turbo with a 3.3 lt motor from 1988, and a 4 speed trans with limited slip, this car shows to be a row 930...shows eng 930.66, and trans code of 930.36. this info came from porsche, although companies like ruf were said to pull car out of production and finish them, but would end up with their vin #, all that aside, would like to see what paper work he has to say different...maybe kleinbbc2 is right....another one to take a hard look at.....vinnie

this is just *not* a 1988. All the small details point to 1990 and after. Rear seat locking, windshield seal, center tunnel, dashboard, suspension, etc. You just can not have that from 1988.
The VIN does not correspond to the car. Smells like stolen car real bad.
And don't tell us it is a prototype. In 1989, even the factory magazine Christophorus showed pre-production details that are not on this car.

Why also would it have an airbag steering wheel if it was from 1988?

Since I told the seller that his car couldn't be a 964 Turbo according to the VIN he kept on trying to convince me with all kind of not important details that this car was 100 % original.

I have showed this thread to him, so maybe he want to chime in.

Oh it is all original, no question. With a single exception, the chassis number.
The seller wil not admit to that. It would make the car unsellable at best, confisctated by the relevant authorities at worst.

If it was a pre-production 964 model, then surely it would have the earlier 964 rear seats, rather than the later ones introduced in 1992? Looks to me like they've either fitted a 964 interior and body kit to an earlier car, or fitted an older vin plate to a 964.

Doesn't the 964 have a different arrangement for the placement of the spare wheel to that of the 911/930? It'd be interesting to see a photo of it.
