Ignition control module

Ignition control module
My mate, phil965, has his 1991 3.3 in the garage with a fault (rough running). The mechanic has tracked the issue to a "ignition control module" which needs replacing.
He isolated it by swapping another unit from another 965 in at the time, and the fault was solved.
He says the part is no longer made by Porsche.
Apparently they can't find anyone to repair the old unit either, and a search for secondhand has been fruitless so far.
Finally, the garage says the unit is different for the 3.6 (which Porsche still make for £2000!) and it won't work in the 3.3.
Other than sell the car for scrap (joking?) or install a 3.6 engine, does anyone have any useful info or ideas on where to get one?
Here's hoping you can help....

Hi Mark,
Sorry to hear about this, makes me worried what I'll do if I have problems with mine. Has he tried any of the US or German suppliers/breakers?
It's looking increasingly likely that I'll be the only one turning up in a Porsche on the 7th!
Cheers,
Tim.

Thanks all for your suggestions so far - except for Anthony ;-)
Phil will get the exact part number, and also check if the 930 unit is any good. There are a couple of other breakers to phone round. Will keep you posted.

Give Freisinger a ring, he has some old used parts in stock for our cars.
