I just sent an email to Ag stating that I should be blogging this build.
I'm glad to hear there are others in the community that are interested in home-brewing their cars. Stephen's and others' pioneering work on EFI is awesome, but I simply cannot afford those kinds of dollars. Just buying the car tapped me out! Money aside, I love the project, love having something cooking in the garage, love how much I'm learning every day on this stuff.

After wrenching on the valve covers, and then getting some help, I laid a fresh piece of cardboard under my car yesterday, and for the first time since I have owned it, it didn't drip a single drop!

The engine is all nice and clean, and I hoping it stays that way....

Check out my engine rebuild thread on www.pcarworkshop.com. Its a 993 engine, but lots of similar parts. The pictures pretty well follow the entire process.

I did my own, but I also too Bruce Anderson's engine rebuilding course...definitely worth the money. Get all the books, do the research. THe Pelican engine rebuilding forum is very usefull and supportive as well.

If you have some mechanical skills, these engines are not that hard to rebuild. But you do need to be really organized and patient. Do not rush ahead, go step by step, double check your results, and kepp plugging.

My 993 engine has about 10,000 mile on it now, runs like a champ, zero oil leaks, and it dyno'ed really strong. Its very rewarding to drive a car where you build the engine!

Cheers,

Mike
