Default Ack, just confirmed, my 3.6 has an open diff

Tech opened it up. No LSD in my car. One of two things happened: a prior owner roasted the LSD and rather than rebuilding it, threw in a cheap open, or somehow this car was ordered w/o an LSD. It has trans# G5052 2 trans ser#003768.

Thoughts? I'm going to call PCNA to try to get the original options list.

the 2 after the G50/52 designates it as a trans with the LSD option. It should have come with a LSD. If you check under the hood on your option tag, you should also see 220 which designates the LSD option.

Actually only the 91 turbos had the 220 option code on the sticker. Still some controversy on whether it was an option or came standard. Then again they list the sunroof as an option yet you couldn't order one without. makes no sense.

This is the option sticker for a different 94 turbo. As you can see it doesn't mention option 220 however it shows the tranny as being type G5052 20 meaning the 20/100 LSD.

Sorry to hear your 3.6 woes. Based on the attitude of the previous owner and all the apparent money he claims he spent getting it running right I would think someone played some games wit this car. I can't imagine driving a turbo without some form of LSD.

Thanks Anthony. Well, at least when I'm done there will be another board member with a pristine 3.6.

Unfortunately, I'll have way more into the car than its worth with all the extensive work I've had done to make it mechanically perfect.

Don't know if this helps or not but if you think of it this way:

A great running 3.6T is truly a priceless one of a kind opportunity to own. With more and more leaving the country and fewer nice cars available you may find one day you actually made money on it.

Hell, nobody believed me a year ago when I said buy gold but what do I know.

Hopefully with a better that "proper" lsd since the stock ones weren't that great...

I hadn't heard that before. Would you put an aftermarket lsd on a 3.6 turbo or is there another Porsche product?

The only diffs I'd use would be a Porsche diff, Porsche Motorsport diff, or a Gaurd diff. I was referring to a worn motorsport diff that I thought would be perfect for his transmission.

I saw that on the other thread on sourcing. I wouldn't have thought that a 996cup lsd would be compatible with our cars. This is why I'm not a Porsche mechanic.
