Default Speedline Wheel help

Thought you turbo 965 guys might be able to help out a 964 guy. My 92 C2 has 18 inch Speedlines part # 96536214000. ( evidently, these are for a 1990-1994 turbo). I love the look and the performance. However, I noticed a crack in the left rear rim. I doubt it would pass the next tech inspection for a D.E. Can a crack like this be repaired or am I looking at a new wheel as the only option? My mechanic said he found a new one in Canada.....$1,850 each! Anyone out there know where I could pick up a used one? I need only one rear, but would certainly buy a set of rears if necessary. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

You'll need a new rim. Be sure to inspect the other rims as well, especially if you plan on tracking the car. Remember, these rims could be 14+ years old.

I retired my set of 18" Speedlines on my old Cup when a friend of mine nearly totalled his 993 Cup in the Toe of the Boot at the Glen. After getting towed into the pits, it was discovered that one of his original Speedlines cracked at speed, which ultimately sheared off 4 of 5 spokes---the center piece literally got sucked into the brake rotor.

You may want to consider a second set of rims solely for track purposes. Obviously the $$$ might be more than you wanted to spend, but you can't put a price on safety or peace of mind.

Good luck,
Mike

Saw a rear on Pistonheads but not cheap. Check in this forum. Jim Dorociak had two rear inners at one time. Is it on the inner hoop or outer hoop?

K964...what happened to those old wheels? Or did you just retire them for track use?

All 3 sets of rims went with the Cup when I sold it (Speedlines, BBS Mg, and Jongbloed Al).

picture of damage, is it a hairline crack? obvious offroading event, or just stress?

It can be repaired, but because of its use and age it might make sense to buy new inner rear rims and start fresh. Are yours the standard 8 & 10's? Are you running spacers on the rear to eliminate rubbing? Could replace with a 7.5" inner hoop and make 9.5" rear instead of a 10".
