Yeah can't imagine why they kept the sun roof since it was a big project.

Pics are on www-dp-motorsport.de under gallery, 993 prototype. Check out the sloped windscreen.....

With stock Hp the IC is adequate enough that it shouldn't make a difference how much air flow. the odds of heat soaking the IC are slim to none for road applications. I also agree that these are the only 2 I/C's I have seen with cast raised lettering. Almost every I/C I have seen are clean with no marks.

The raised cast lettering must be good for an extra 10 horsepower; we'll call it the XCL option (Cast Lettering)...

The ones with the lettering must be old ones since they say " Made in W. Germany". There was no West Germany after reunification in 1990.

great news, I've just checked, and mine is the lightweight non lettering version. Had a panic about all that extra weigh on the backend. As a thought perhaps this was one of those handling improvements Porsche developed to reduce rear overhang weight ;-)

I think we need a math genius to get it right ;-) more surface or wheigt save, what gets more. Sometimes older is better

Sorry for ruining your hopes. Suddenly your XCL option does not look so desirable anymore!!!

Quick update

I met my mech the other day. It was a "private" test at the wind channel. I think its plausible because Sauber is from Switzerland and if you know the right guys it should be no problem to get once in this wind channel for some testing.

They measured that there only gets enough air into the engine cover when you hit about 140-150mph. As lower the speed is, the more worse it gets. The whole engine bay heats up constantly.

On sunny days you can cool down the inlet air by about 15-20°C with the fans. Which is sure some hp's more or less. I hope i can measure this by myself in some weeks. Because i wait for my plx gauges to install. I want to install an AIT sensor with them and then we will see whats really going on with or without fans.

What are the CFM specs on those fans??? Even if hp isn't such a big diff does it give better gas mileage and longevitity to the engine life? Thanks for the help.

You are restricting the airflow with those fans. I would take them off immediately. I have an intercooler off a Ruf RCT which is almost identical to the stock C2 unit. On it I installed Davtron temp sensors before AND after the intercooler to monitor the temps at the track and street. Even at idle the engine fan is pulling enough air through the intercooler to cool the air 25-30 degrees. On a freeway cruise with no boost it will cool the air to near ambient! On the track the pre-intercooler numbers are through the roof and the post intercooler numbers are usually 100-150 less (sometimes higher). The most important thing with intercoolers is the shrouding and to make sure it has a good seal with the decklid. On mine I have a stock C2 shroud on the decklid and it works very well.
