Default Bilstein HD rear ride height

I'm installing Bilstein HDs on the rear of my 91 Turbo right now. I've already done the fronts. I left the collars in their lowest position and liked the ride height.
I'm using H&R Sport springs.

On the rears, there are a couple of things that are confusing me.
1) There is only one lock collar, so how does it stay in place?
2) Where should I place the collar within its adjustment range to get something like Euro height?

Thanks.

I can't answer all your questions but here is my input.

The original Bodge struts only had one colar. While I don't think it is ideal, Porsche seemed to think it was ok. If you are concerned, I'd inquire with Bilstein about purchasing a second set for piece of mind.

As far as ride height, are you running the stock springs? Not sure you can get ROW low without ROW springs.

Good luck. I am in the midst of re-lowering mine.

No, H&R Sport springs. Just looking for another data point. I went ahead and installed them today with the collar as far down as it goes. The car sits lower than it used to, but not rubbing, and pretty much looks like everyone else's who have lowered their heights. So I guess it's OK.

same set up as mine!..you only really need one collar on the rears as the struts dont turn like the fronts when you steer and they then have little chance of adjusting themselves.
i have got my fronts as low a setting as they go and to have the car set up properly with some down rake at the front the rear collars if i remember are approx 1 inch or less from the bottom..you will still have to have the car set up though....i think my car is about from the wheel arch lip to the ground approx 25 rear 25 1/4inch front ...do a search and make sure though

By set-up, you mean alignment? I'm not going to do a corner balance since it's just street use. I have front and rears as low as they go. It looks level, I suppose it might look better if I raise the rear a bit. I just got it back together, so unless I can adjust them while they're in the car, that's how it's going to be for a while. I guess if I can get a spring compressor in there, I can adjust them while installed.

Yeah i mean 4 wheel alignment!!..really important on these cars..you can just jack car up at adjust the ride height with the shocks/springs in place(remembering to lock the fronts with the lock nut),pretty easy!..you do want a bit of downrake though(down approx 1/2 inch more at front),i am led to believe so when you accelerate hard the car becomes level..
get the ride height first the way you want it then get it 4 wheel aligned.

The car can be level and not weighted properly. This is dangerous. Don't skimp.

Mine has the H&R turbo springs and is lowered to around the Euro RS spec. and it handles superbly. As Stu suggests the front is lower than the back. It was set up by G-Force Motrorsport back in 1995 who at the time were the Porsche specialist in the UK - they ran a 911 GTI at Le Mans in the late 90's, so knew what they were doing.

Here's a picture:

Nathan,
What do you mean, don't skimp? It's been stated here many times that corner balancing is not necessary if you're not racing it. What good does it do in a street car anyway? I'm not pushing it to its limit and I may or may not have a 200 pound passenger.

You want equal weight under each front wheel and each rear wheel as possible. When braking and accelerating one wheel will have less weight than the other reducing the grip available to the tyre. This must also affect tyre wear.
When turning left or right the back may dip more than the front in one direction & the front more in the other. Yuck! Rocking horse effect.

IMO I don't see the point in having such a well made car if you don't have this tweaked.

It is of course up to you though.

Check this out RE corner balancing, the quote of X-1 says it all really. It reminds me of when i was told by a so called wheel & tyre specialist to try lower tyre presures in the rear...

That link points at this thread.
If I can find someone reliable nearby, I will consider it.

I was able to raise my rear with the shocks installed. I couldn't get a spring compressor on them, so I had to use a 22mm wrench, with the open side on the coil and the box side on a jack. Once the tension was relieved, the collar was easily adjustable.
