The 997 car picked up more streetability than its predecessor even while using stiffer springs. However, in the migration to the new chassis, the 997 GT3/RS did pick up some rear end bounce and a few other handling quirks. I personally think this is more to do with dampers than with spring rates, as the rates aren't *that* high.

I have yet to receive my 965 so I can't really compare to the turbo.

I think this is the same dilemma PT w/ his black on black 3.6 was going thru and frankly I would be dealing with too if my car were in fact a 3.6 turbo. I too have been toying with the idea of selling my Zermat because I feel like its too valuable to drive on the track; but as it sits right now, my car is the perfect balance between street and track and it has been modified to my preference.

SA, you are probably right for wanting to sell it because there are other examples out there which can replace it and based on its current condition you have a nice unmolested piece for a collector...

I think once you get it your going to find it needs suspension work the The GT3 RS is not heavily sprung but compared to the turbo it is. Unfortunately, a stock turbo is fast but a stock GT3RS is faster. You will need to do some mods to get the turbo up to current speed. I would like to have a run against an RS to see how my car compares considering when I saw dyno charts my car appears to have a bit more power and torque.

Cobalt,

A few weeks back at VIR coming out of Oak Tree; I was behind a 997 GT3 and a 520HP 996tt and they accelerated maybe 5-8 car lengths in front of me and at the brake zone I was no more than 15 or so car lengths behind them. But what was funny is that the GT3 was the same distance behind the high HP 996tt as I was behind him .

Modded 964 Turbos should be able to beat up on the 3 in a straight line, but probably not stock. RWHP is in the 380 range for the GT3. . . I'm new to the turbo, but from what I've read it shouldn't be too hard to get power beyond that. But of course the chassis in the GT3/RS is 3 generations advanced and cannot really be compared.

I have seen a few 500+ rwhp charts of Protomotive modded 964's. Should be able to show tailights to about anything on the road

Agreed but that is why I prefer the turbo for a street car.

Ha, my name shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence, much less the same tread as Steve's. I'm trying to get my die cast collection up to his real collection. But i'm happy with what I have.

Anthony, what rwhp & torque is your 3.6 pulling? I think we have similar mods. I just need to find time to do my own dyno. As far as weight compared to the RS, the turbos should be about 200-250 lbs heavier.

Back to the OP, so what toy has been making you drool, Mike?!?

Well Steve is in the top 5% or less of all rennlister's with quite a collection that seems to change constantly. We all aspire to be like Steve. Although my wife will never have her new kitchen and I need a new garage.

My car is in the 380 rwt range and 365 rwhp, when I had it corner balanced it weighed in at 3120 pounds with half a tank of gas. What does an RS weigh and aren't Porsche's numbers usually sans liquids. Does anyone know what kind of torque the GT3 puts down?

Actually Ray Joseph. LOL He's a pretty good guy. Should have made myself clear. Both Steve and Ray Joseph have quite a collection and buy cars like ordering a hamburger from McDonalds. Ahh the life.

My car at its last corner balance weighed 3100 and change with me in it and 3/4 of a tank of gas. That should make up for the 20-30 less pwr and torque than you 3.6 guys have

GT3 RSs come in over 3200lbs wet, so weight is quite comparable.

Tq. . . around 280 ft lbs.

So 100 ft lbs more tq (i.e., sledgehammer), close in rwhp, and slightly lighter, the 3.6 should be quicker if you can get traction (note that the 3/rs come with pretty sticky tires from the factory).

I think the big difference b/t these two very fast cars, is the *way* power is delivered. I don't think they could be any differnt.

Anthony, what power mods do you have? Mine will be sent off to finishing school soon. . . I'll likely get aggressive.
