I bet the car not starting was an air leak. I had my care die on me with an airleak, took an OPC 6 hours to find it, but once fixed all was well.

You have to remember most Mechs are not used to solving problems logically and would rather just charge you for components until they find the one that was faulty.

Guys, guys, guys.... my car is back!!!

It runs great. And amazingly, contrary to popular advice and opinion, he set it at <1% CO ....
and O2 connected!

It still pops and bangs just the same (no cat/silencer) and runs fine. Its great.

The only obeservation of the new HFS is that with the OEM headers that are currently installed, the extra power is not that noticeable. The only real benefit so far is it keeps up the power at 6K plus (need to make sure change up before redline even more so!). Obviously the new headers are integral to the full result. Come on Stephen, hurry up with my order!

PS: The new clutch is great No extra effort needed to engage, and the response is that bit crisper.

And as to the bill:
I got a refund on the wastegate, even though its still got it on. And he's agreed to fit my new Tial and put the exhaust back to how it was (ie. unweld it!!) for no charge.
He'll do this when it goes back in for fitting the new headers and quad tail-pipes.

PS: James, I paid for the control unit, he reckoned it had blown, due to a faulty electrical connection/ surge. Anyway, all done now.

Mark,

Great news - sounds like Bob has come through for you finally! Good luck with getting the B&Bs - I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing the result when I next see you.

Cheers,

Tim.

Thanks chaps.
Yes Anthony, the speedlines (copies) keep beckoning. But with all the money (mods AND maintenance) I have spent, I think they will probably wait until next year now. I am undecided also whether I want 'classic' metal or 'mean' black...

... personally (and this is strictly my taste only) i'd stick to the classic metal look, less likely to date too IMHO.

Even though engine-wise my car runs well again, the heater is buggered and the alarm temperamental. Was never this bad.

Oh well, its booked in later this week for heater rebuild work. A different garage I hasten to add.
As if I haven't spent enough on this thing! Another bill over a £1000 I'll bet?

PS: Not going to the Ace meet now on Wednesday.

So it was the WUR as I suggested? I never heard back from Bob.

Stephen
I don't think it was the WUR? He 'said' he had changed back to the standard WUR 2 weeks before!
Also, Brian Leask set up his adjustable one pretty standard just a bit more at top end (like 3.6). The car was very poor with both WUR's.
Bob charged me for a new control box and some electrical work but I am not convinced. I think it was a leak somewhere!!
I wasn't aware he said he would come back to you. It was a big effort to get him to call in the firstplace...
Also, Stephen perhaps you can clarify, everyone on this board said the way to set up these cars without a cat is at 3% and O2 disconnected, yet it works the same with 1% and O2 connected... what gives?

Thanks for your interest.

Keep in mind you increase CO for mods. Consider this. If your car is running the mods and AFRs are ok and the CO is at 1& then a change is not needed. We suggest 3% when the car needs the added fuel because it give 3% across the board. If the car doesn't need it then it is a waste. The 02 disconnected is the ideal way because with it plugged in at idle the computer is looking for >1% not 3% it is set and the computer is going to fight by trying to bring the CO down.

Not every car respond the same way. This is why each needs to be checked prior to changes. Now, add cams, head work and so on and you are guranteed that you need at least a 3% CO.

Glad you got it sorted.

How do you find the lightweight flywheel?

Very pleased with the LWFW. Its more responsive off boost, and off the mark.
If i blip the throttle its more 'instant' and race car like. There are no downsides, the idle is steady, and no stalling. Maybe the action is slightly stiffer in traffic, maybe.
Also I hear a very slight chatter, but nowhere near as noticeable as a 3.2 (or 930?) which I like anyway.

I'll report more in a few weeks when I have got more used to it, and driven it harder.
