Default performance air boxes.

Hi, Folks

I am thinking about getting a zuc zee or one of the other manufacturers replacement air boxes,Fvd do one and fabspeed also. I would like to hear about what you have installed on your 3.3's (965)and have you been pleased with the performance gains.
I have a kn panel at present but these air boxes look better and more room left in the engine for me to get at things.
I have also asked about the bov in the past which now I understand is on my car and is a plastic bosch part which fails because it is plastic.I would like to know what you have replaced yours with as fvd do a nice anodised blue one in alloy, but I will go with your advise.

Regards Gaz

People say no air box or filter works any better than the stock box & paper filter.

As for the recirc valve you can get a Forge Motorsport. They have different springs & shims for them so you can adjust it.

Because the car uses an air flow meter based system, rather than manifold pressure to determine air flow, you will need a recirculating dump valve, rather than a dump to atmosphere type (those are the normal ones that go 'tisshhh' when you change gear).

If you put an atmospheric dump valve on a car using an air flow meter based system (whether these cars or anything else for that matter) you are changing the air/fuel ratio when the air is dumped - the car has no way of knowing the amount of air in the system has decreased below what it initially measured and thus it will run rich (it will have less air than it calculated) for a fraction - not good, and it can even lead to the situation where you get bore washing from the excess fuel in extreme cases.

In terms of air filters / air boxes, I've also got the standard one with a K&N element fitted. The filters that sit on top of the intake definitely seem to free up space, but imho the potential for the ambient intake temperatures to increase is not worth it.

ive always heard the 930/965 standard filter neck is too narrow and wont flow enough air for big bhp, thats why the zuc z was popular, supposedly it gave 20bhp on a standard engine, i never got round to fitting one on my turbo as it seemed pricey for a plastic tube! this fvd one looks similar

911legend, Probably different set up with your 3.6 C2.

screaming, there are numerous past threads on this subject. Try a search by subject 'air filter'.
The consensus seems to be that OEM is as good as it gets, except space saving.

Default spend spend spend.

Hi,Folks

I have done my research now and will get the airbox,I will have the old air box in the garage so I can always go back to standard if I need too.
I plan on getting the fvd one, I have heard that the design was flow bench tested so will give it a try.
I have a contact in the tuning game and he reckons if I make a funnel which goes straight into the filter area I should see improvements.
I will have a go at designing and making a carbon funnel which fits near the engine lid(underneath)so I'll order some carbonfibre sheet this week and start playing in the shed.

Looks as same as the Zukspeed one I fitted years ago. I run one on the 964 3.6 turbo and used to run one on my race car (3.3 turbo). Tech 9 dyno tested one years ago and found no gain. The plastic air box stays cold unlike the standard metal system. Personally I say they work well. More noticeable when fitted to the race car as you are giving it full beans all the time. I don't think you'll be disappointed and would be interested to know your opinion.
cheers Graeme

wouldnt spend 595 euros for no power gain.....
try the filter only , thats only 75 euros make a 90 degree bend to fit it, add fitting tube 21euros and you could angle it where you want in the engine bay or under wing
