Default Damaged Speedline Outer Rim

Damaged the outer rim on my left rear (18x10) Speedlines last night (pulling over to let an ambulance get by, so I can't feel too bad!). Anybody know of a source for the outer hoop or someone with a single wheel they'd like to sell? Totally mint other than 4-5" of rash, but I'd like it to be pristine (want to retain authentic "Speedline for Porsche"). A decent polishing job will get 90% of the way back, but I wanted to check other options first.

I have spare 1.75" outer Speedline rim halves, but they have already been polished and Speedline for Porsche is gone. FVD sells new, but I am not sure it actually has the Speedline for Porsche. You could call and ask. Jim

Any idea if swapping out for a new outer half is feasible? I seem to remember reading something to the tune of "need special factory equipment"? I live in Boston so have access to a decent Porsche shop (EPE)...I'd assume they can do it? FVD part has the etching in the photo in their site...will call them to make sure.

yes, can be done, you should get your rim spun without the tire to make sure it is still straight, then take apart the wheel. Jim

I just ordered 4 brand new outer rims from Porsche and my local garage says the new outer rims will have "Speedline for Porsche" script. Hopefully will arrive soon...

FVD sell them with the script, as original. Beware of the offset requirement.

FVD does sell them however the new parts say "SPEEDLiNE for PORSCHE" Not "SPEEDLINE for PORSCHE"

It is not noticeable unless you are looking for it. I don't know why this happened but one might assume that Porsche did this on purpose to differentiate between the old and new wheels since they went back into production about a year or so ago. Otherwise the wheels and lips are identical to the originals and shouldn't make any difference.

Got my brand new wheels about 3 weeks ago........and immediatly noticed the difference.
My original wheels are in real good shape and now I'm debating about installing the new.

These are old / original

Amazing, I looked at the FVD rim in great detail and did not see the "i", just goes to show you what your mind wants you to verses the actual! Thanks Cobalt.

Yes it is. 1974 vintage. Had it since 1979 along with Bally's Mariner (4 player) 1971 both in A1 condition. I also have an original pristine Brunswick air hockey table and Joker Poker pinball which is in bad disrepair although you can buy replacement parts easily if you have the time to troubleshoot these things. Miles of wires and solenoids and a broken wire can be impossible to detect. Hard to find family fun games like these anymore but there is an entire community of pinball collectors out there. Ironically I don't think they are worth anymore today than when I purchased them back in 1979.

As far as the "i" in Speedline I am sorry I let the cat out of the bag but to be honest I don't think it makes a major difference. Unless you are as familiar with these wheels as we are nobody else picks up on it and unless you point out (like I did ) it will never be an issue. It is still better to have the small "i" than no "I" at all.

Bad Boy 1,

What wheels did you purchase? Was it the capital I wheels?

I purchased new Speedlines from Porsche. Took about 4-6 weeks to get , I opened the boxes
to inspect for damage and saw the " i "

The wheels on the car have " I "

I'm going thru the entire car and my original wheels had light curbing that I had
removed and then reclear coated. My issues were that the bolts weren't perfect
so I figured I would purchase new and sell my originals.

I think most would have been happy with what I have on the car, but after I saw the
thread on here where someone refurbished a set I knew thats what I wanted.
In hindsite I probably should have had mine redone, just didn't know who did it,
so I just bought new.

You did the right thing, if you have the means by them from Porsche. Thats what I did with one of mine. They are expensive but worth it. Having to mess with taking the wheel apart and having to rebolt it up...what a pain in a**
