In looking for a 92 Turbo, are there any important items to address in a PPI, other than the usual. 964's in general seem to have a bad rap. Is the same true for the Turbos.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Two recommendations:
a) take the car for the PPI to someone who knows air cooled turbos well. Porsche dealers don't work one these cars very much.
b) scroll through the 964 turbo forum in great detail
There is nothing unusual about 964 turbos in comparison to other 15 year old cars. I actually think that they are pretty bullet proof as long as they are maintained well. A low mileage example is no assurance that you won't have problems because these cars don't get better from sitting.

who said 964's have a bad rap. Only inherent issue was the 'potential" 1990 cylinder head leaks but that was only hit and miss and was covered by warranty and usually occurred in the first 20,000 miles if it happened at all. i think they are more reliable than the 930's maybe less than the 993. Pose your concerns on the 964 forum and you will get much more experienced feedback.

in your ppi,see if they can remove the valve covers to see if there is any broken head bolts, these are prone to breaking due to expansion and age,,a leak down test should also give you an indication if the head bolts are broken aswell!!!...engine rebulid required if any are broken..i have owned now 70k miles 89 930 and also a 90k 92 965 and both cars have suffered from this,,weakest part in the engine in my opinion...
if all ok in ppi etc,,,,go for it!!!
