Default 89 930 vs 964 Turbo

With the asking prices of low mileage 89 Turbos rising into 964 Turbo prices, I'm considering looking for a 964 turbo instead of an 89. What are the important factors to consider in deciding between the two?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

How much you want to spend?
How close to stock?

As far as the two. The 964 turbo has a far superior heating and cooling system, abs, power steering, and a few other details that fellow members will let you in on.

Good luck finding your next car.

My budget is up to $52,500, maybe $55,000 for an exceptional car.

You should be able to find a very nice 964 turbo for that money. There might be a 3.6 around for that limit. Make sure to check the usual avenues for any cars...

Again good luck.

But also remember more things to go wrong too.

There may be more mechanical things to go wrong but i think corrosion will be less of an issue. That was one of the reasons i traded up from an 89 930, along with the improvements mentioned. To me a 965 is a more useble 930.As always a good PPI is essential from someone who knows these cars.Good luck.

I had an 87 turbo and the 965. Yes the G50 is in the 89 911 turbo. But the 911 turbo felt like I was driving a school bus next to the 965. Buy the 965 you will be far happier in the long run

That's a nice looking car...a few issues
- the wheels don't fit. There is not enough offset and they stick out
- the "turbo" logo doesn't look right
- I don't think the exhaust is original

Is your car still available, publicly? If so, that's the 964t I would buy

Drew,

Regarding:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-Po...QQcmdZViewItem

Isn't 7/91 Manufacture date a little early for a 92 Model?

That car looks ideal for off-roading. Or smuggling contraband under the arches.

Back to the thread - go for the 964 turbo every time. It's an awesome machine!

I don't know about the production date. Check the car out if you can, get a Pre Purchase Inspection done at a shop and make an offer. The wheel issues can be sorted out and of course you can always lower the car.

I think you will find many if not most of us here would take a 964 turbo over a 993T. At least a 94T. I had the option of a 993T and went with the 964T. The 993T is a great car but lacks the raw power and excitement of the earlier single turbos. I think you will find that more and more people agree and this is contributing to the rise in prices for these cars.

I smell a fish with that seller of the red turbo. The wheel offsets are wrong and I highly doubt all original paint on a 42k mile car with 0 stone chips and no clear bra. I have some very minor stone chips and my car has had clear bra on it since day one and I have seen 6k mile cars with stone chips. How do you drive a car for that many miles and not have a single chip and no oil leaks? Just to good to be true.
