Default Anybody fitted 930 headers to a 965?

I am looking at the goingsuperfast headers for my 965 at $1,100. Although I am told that they fit, the heat exchanger pipes are a slightly different design - apparently they may need some cutting. I'm in the UK so I need the heat

Anybody any thoughts on whether this is possible/sensible?

Cheers,
Tim.

I believe that I have 930 headers on my 965. Here is a thread that gives you some pics:

Ask colin at 9m how much to convert my old ghls to stock wastegate pipe. I had converted to a turbo smart flange. Cant imagine it would cost much, and you'd have a 965 set at a v. good price.

Frank,

Ah ha - thanks! I followed this thread the first time round and now I see the problems that you and D666s had are, as you suggest, most probably due to your headers being designed for a 930 and not a 965! Where did you buy yours from? Sounds like you have both been sold the wrong headers...

As they say however, your loss is my gain because it enables me to ask how you got around the problem. Any tips I can give to my garage would be appreciated - did you stick with the aluminium hose or did you get the orange hose that Kevin suggested? Did they need to do any cutting?

Any help greatly received - pm me if it's easier.

Cheers,

Tim.

Cheers James for the suggestion, but I talked to Colin some time back about your old headers and they were already sold.

Tim,

I brought the car to a very reputable, well known shop in CT (USA) that ordered the parts and performed the work - and this is not the only thing they got wrong. I will ultimately exchange the aluminum hose with something else.

Good luck!

Are the 930 headers much different to the 3.2 headers which I have on my car? The only downside I have is the oil filter is a pig to get to and needs to be tightened every few thousand miles as the pipes are so close to it that the heat causes it to expand and leak - or is this a general 965 issue anyway?

Mark, my oil filter seems to stay bone dry. I get the odd weep of oil down the side/bottom of the crankcase, but otherwise it's pretty oil free.

From the parts images I've seen of 3.2/930/964T heat exchangers they all look more or less alike apart from the blower pipes at the front (rounder in the 964T, and more oval in the earlier design).

Just under my 91 and the heat exchangers have a 930 part number. They came on the car (and will be removed soon )

Hi Ryan,

The part number does begin with 930, but it is different:

930 - 93021102901
965 - 93021103302 (same for both 3.3 & 3.6 BTW)

Interestingly there's only one part number for both the left and right. Let me know how they look when they come off...

Cheers,

Tim.

I fitted my GSF headers with heat with no issues (I have a 965 S with 1 bar, cat bypass, waste gate bypass and other mods).

Works fine and I have heat.

I hope this could help you.

Bye!

Hi Zarpoxx,

I'm really interested you should say that because I've been told the heat exchanger pipes are at a completely different angle - hence the problems that Frank talked about.

Do you have any more details and any pictures of the install?

Cheers,

Tim.

Hi tjr,

Yes, the heat exchanger pipes are different, but this is not a problem. It will fix ok with the same aluminum hose like Frank uses (mine is like Frank´s pictures). I know is not the perfect hose, but its works. Here one picture (sorry but I haven´t pictures of the entire process of install).

Don´t think about it. Just buy a GSF headers (or other trade) and install. It is another car. Sure. I am on boost now at aprox 1.800 rpm. It is amazing.

Cheers,

The one thing of note is that GSF headers are 304 stainless whereas GHL and B&B are 321 which holds up to high heat better.

I am not an expert but for street applications, 304 seems like it would suffice. Track is another story.
