I was pulling apart the car and checking everything out.

I took a closer look at the muffler and noticed a small tube welded inside the larger opening. It runs most of the length of the can and has some holed drilled in it.

Not sure if that is really for sound tuning but it seems restrictive.

Thoughts.

Also, this is a pretty old muffler. Any redesigns?

Most mufflers are nothing more than 2 pipes one entering and one leaving that are perforated. Sometimes they will add baffles or stainless steel wool to deaden the sound. The exhaust passes through the perforated pipe into the chamber and then out the other perforated pipe. If they are restrictive would depend on how big the perforations are and how much sound deadening material is added.

If you buy the dansk sport muffler it is the same product as the factory muffler but has a smaller dia pipe welded from one perforated pipe to the other allowing some of the gases to exit directly without entering the chamber.

Get a g-pipe or swans neck and you will have no restriction, and a better sound...

Actually that won't work. He has already eliminated the muffler and cat by adding the B&B otherwise I would agree.
