Default Anybody running 9" rims up front?

I'm looking at upgrading from my Cup 1s to 18s and am looking at a set of 10 & 9J wheels with offsets of 57 (r) & 52 (f). I'm pretty sure the rears are OK but I'm not sure if the fronts will fit especially as my car is lowered around 40mm from standard ROW ride height. Any thoughts?

Also, anyone any comments on the change in steering feel with 9s up front? I will not be tracking the car - the upgrade is purely cosmetic

Any thoughts/advice gratefully recieved.

Cheers.

I have ordered some custom rims 9" and 10.5" x 18 which i will be getting next week so i will tell you if they fit. The fronts will fit for sure if you are running smaller diameter springs.

I don't think the wheels are the problem - the question is what tires are you going to run up front?

Speaking of tires; can we run 285's in the rear on 18 x 10 wheels? Would this require a 30 series vs 35 series profile?

you can run 285/30/18 or 295/30/18 without any problem.

i'm attempting 265 fronts and 315 rears with yoko 048s with 9" and 10.5" which i have on order.

I have 285/35/18's on the rear, my car is lowered via H&R coilovers, and I have no problems.

Tires make a difference and I don't know about Yokos, but I suggest a back up plan...straight line may be ok, but I think you will have a problem making turns

Building on what Jeffrey says, the turning will be the tricky part. I dry fit 275's (9" rims...52 offset if I remember correctly). You won't be able to get full lock, turn to turn with the tires greater then say 245 and 25" diameter. The tires will be into the fender liners. So they will fit....with some compromises.

Sounds like you have tried 245/40/18s with 9" rims without any issues? i will be using the yoko 048 265/35/18 on 9"; the yoko tire spec section width is the same as the 245 Hoosier R6 and diameter is also slightly smaller so that leads me to believe it could work. Also with a 9" rim you can go with a higher offset if you have a smaller diameter spring for additional clearance. I think the rubbing is caused by the tire being to far towards the fender.

Currently I'm running 18's w/ 245/35's on an 8" width rim. The diameter for this tire (Kumho V710) is 24.8". I wouldn't expect a 9" rim to be a problem.

However....

I do have the smaller diameter springs. And it's a combination of the width and diameter that will cause issues. If you go larger then ~25" diameter and 235 mm width you'll surely be into the liners. The decision will be how much lock to lock turn are you willing to give up.

So it's a lock that we can fit 235's on 18x8.5 wheels in the front?

Where do you find the front tire rubbing into the liner? in front of the tire or on the inside liner?

currently running 225/40/18 front and 285/35/18 rear and ran 295/35/18 rear without any problems other than using a 3mm spacer on the rear for trailing arm clearance. She runs a 30mm lower h&r spring kit. I prefer the 35 profile as many years ago I noticed that the inner rim of the speedlines had cracked. 35 gives it a bit more of a cushion.

I will look when I get home, I know I have 285/30 18's on the back (I just bought two new ones), and I think I have 235's up front. I will measure the width of the wheels as well. I do not have any rubbing problems.

IIRC, on the track Colin used to run 245s upfront on 9" wheels, so I don't think that is a problem.

Even if you could get 265s up front, I don't think you will be happy with the handling, even straight-line. If anything the focus for these cars should be toward increasing the rear width. But, that is a separate thread that passed through the 964 Turbo area not that long ago.
