Default MSD 6AL or 7AL on a 965?

Hello,

I would like to replace my existing EZ-69 ignition control unit for an MSD 6AL or better yet the 7AL. I'm still running CIS.

I have searched everywhere and it is not clear whether this can be done?

Has any one done this upgrade? What is involved?

Thanks,

GB

The ez 69 has the timing maps you need it and cannot replace it with the MSD.
BTW

I have an EZ 69 from a 94 3.6 Turbo for sale if you need it

Hi Elliot,

My understanding is that you can adjust timing with the 7AL... I believe Geoffrey has indicated that this can be done if the triggering mechanism on turbos 91-94 can be dealt with.

I did not indicate that at all. With some EFI systems, you can trigger the ECU, and therefore, the ignition system off of the three tooth flywheel. I don't know about triggering an MSD directly off of it though. The 91-94 was a bastard system in that there isn't a lot of choices for replacement.

Geoffrey definately knows ..the EZ69 is sort of 1/2 a DME.
The EZ69 controlls the timing curve and measures boost to retard as boost increases and i believe the specific map is unknown . they are usually reliable and good for thier intended purpose.
i am using an MSD 6 with a Haltech mgt system to control the timing. Map is adjustable in the Haltech software. I changed to a LWF w/60-2 teeth to trigger the Haltech with the OEM sensor. per Geoffrey's advice..........works perfectly.
THANKS Geoffrey
