Default 3.6 Turbo or 993 Turbo S

Trying to decide between a 1994 black/black 3.6 turbo 10,000 miles or a 1997 993 Turo S 22,000 miles also black /black. Have not driven either car yet, currently have a 997 TT this would be a secon car. any opinions from anybody that has time behind the wheels of both ?

personally I'd go 3.6 every time. I prefer the 5 speed box and the solid feel of the 3.6, the 6 speed seems unecessary with 1st gear far to low. The 993 feels understeery. In truth drive both and make your choice they are both great cars.
cheers Graeme
p.s. mines black with black and red piping

How big a part of the decision is the "look" of the car to you ?

Both car are rare, although I have a 93' 3.6 Turbo, I would take the 993 Turbo S !!! 450 BHP vs 360 BHP , also twin turbo would make a more progressive to drive !!!! Less turbo lag and I like the six speed gear box ! Good luck !

As you have the 997TT now the 3.6T would be more of a contrast than the 993TTS.

I think driving them is your only way- depreciation is not an issue on both.

Both great but different cars. The 94 3.6T is very raw in comparison to the 993TTS which is more GT feeling than the 94. (not to say the 993TTS is a GT) I think you will find both cars very capable however the 94 suspension needs updating without question. The 993TT is more capable out of the box. A simple shock/spring change (can be reverted back easily) will bring the handling of the 94 up to speed quickly. I found my turbo in stock form to be just as fast as a stock 993TT although the 993 will dust me from 0-25mph the 3.6 will catch up after that. Side by side I think you will find they are closer than you think. With some simple bolt on mods the 964 T can be made very fast.

I found the 993 to be a great car but too civilized for my needs. The rush of the single turbo rear wheel drive just makes the 964T such a thrill to drive. If you want capable you already have it, if you want raw fun there is nothing like the 94 turbo.

Next is styling. They both look great I love the Turbo S over the stock TT myself. The 94 is pure classic Porsche turbo and will always attract attention. People recognize the 94 long before most other models because of the classic looks.

With all that being said, If you base the purchase on price the 94 is on the high side and very low mileage. This has 2 down sides. First, the car has not been driven and this can invite all sorts of issues, lack of use or proper storage has been known to be costly. Second, You drive the car a lot and it will hurt the premium value paid for a low mileage car. Upside, it is a clean low mileage car that should hold its value at a minimum and lots of fun to drive.

The 993TTS appears to be priced on the low side. 20k mile turbo S's have been selling for over 100k easily. It sounds like it is worth purchasing on price alone.

So assuming both cars check out clean than If you can I agree buy both. The 993TT for its value and the 94 for pure fun.

Good Luck on a tough decision to make.

I agree with Cobalt. Something sounds wrong on the Turbo S. That price is too cheap. You need to get a VERY GOOD PPI on that one. If it checks out - I would have to say to buy the Turbo S. It will not be a garage queen due to the miles.

I own both cars and love them both. But if you told me I could pick only one it would be the 993 Turbo S. Now, if you told me to pick between one of my 993 Turbo S and one of my 964 Turbo S Flatnose - I would ALWAYS take the Flatnose.

If you want to PM me i would gladly help with any questions.

Don

Hey Don, how do you decide which car to drive on any given day?

Love the 3.6's but for $95k, the 993TTS is a pretty good deal. I would go with the TTS.
