Default Wastegate by-pass... what kind of sound?

Is anyone able to describe the sound made by adding a wastegate bypass? Is it a "screaming" type sound and how loud exactly?

I've searched the forums to death and cant find anything very descriptive.

Intent is to add a Scart swans neck.. considering the wastegate by-pass as well.

Thanks
Matt

I gutted my wastegate cat and it sounds pretty cool when the gate opens up. Like a mini jet engine

When the WG opens, it like a being in the middle of a hurricane (very loud hissing/wooshing sound).

I have the triple bypass - gpipe (similar to your swans neck) and catbypass, and wastegate bypass. I used to think it was my wastegate bypass that was making the loud sound at boost, but am now not so sure. The double exhaust bypass I have (and you will have soon) makes a fantastic sound all the way and also at high revs. When I temporarily put the silencer back on, I did not hear that loud full boost sound, so it is not as loud as the exhaust side. By the way, once you have the swans neck you will never want to go back to muffler. But be warned it sounds like a race car, with lost of pops and bangs - but I love it - so exciting!

The only thing I would add to confuse things, is that although I have a straight through wastegate pipe (ie. no mini cat) there is a baffle in the wastgate factory tip which is still there and needs removing. Once this is done, maybe I'll hear the wastegate more.....although at the moment, I don't feel I need to, the sound is PERFECT!

I had the silencer pipe taken out at the same time, maybe that's why it was louder on my car?

Thanks for the feedback. Will probably go with both (cant delete the cat as living in California now)

Matt,
If you find the muffler bypass alone is not loud enough, you should go with the 100 cell cat too, it sounds similar to the cat bypass but is legal (you better check for California though).
