Mike,
My car had sketchy records as well, so I spent the $$$ on a very thorough PPI (great leakdowns, etc). I went into the purchase knowing I was going to have to spend some money on the car. It is currently in the shop getting new IA lower valve covers, 12 new plug wires, 12 new spark plugs, remounting the Electromotive coil packs, 30,000 mile service, and fixing a couple of other various items (cleaning up the engine compartment, wiring, etc.).
I stopped and talked to my mechanic (Steven at Poudre Sports Car) today, and he was very thorough and did a great job walking me through everything that he is doing to the car. He spent a lot of time fabricating a new mounting system for the coils that is light years ahead of how the PO did it.
My car has a lot of nice parts on it, but just looks like it was not completely thought out when it was put together. I decided to spend the $$ to just fix a couple of things.
Of course, it ran great once it was warmed up, just kind of rich. I am looking forward to getting it back, and knowing it is put back together correctly.
With all that being said, while records are great, even records can't guarantee nothing is going to happen to the car. The PPI can tell a lot as you know. If the car checks out and is nice, I wouldn't let not having the records scare you away.

Well put Bill, you did it right. One has to go into these purchases with open eyes and trust your instincts. Besides, it's always more satisfying to make some changes and upgrades to personlize it to be your prize possesion and not have any old baggage to deal with.

Bill,
The Sloan yellow 930 sold. Not sure about the 87 930 in Cleveland yet, asking prices is not justified unless a true factory slant nose delete. No pre-94 964 turbos have surfaced yet that have stirred my interest. I have seen a couple of nice 94 wide body 964's but I'm not sure what I will gain giving up my 90 C4 which I know looks and runs great. I just need to change out its suspension and add a sport catalytic converter to the sport muffler I have now. It takes me longer to buy a car than a house, it is fun looking.

Bill
When i try and upload a file that is 247 x 165 and about 9kb it says that the maximum size allowed is 180 x 180????
How do you get around this??

Not photoshop, Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Start>Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools>Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
I think the size of what Rennlist allowed me was bigger than 180 x 180. Just keep changing the pixel size till it uploads, that is what I did.
