The premium in the UK for a right hand drive 3.6 is pretty big - mid to high £30k's (£34k to £37k-ish, which roughly translates to $65000-69000 USD) ... so around £10000 ($18000) more than a similar condition rhd 3.3 (£24k-£29k, $46000-55000 USD?). Left hand drive models of both are easier to source and you can pick them up from anywhere from £17000 for a 3.3, to £26000 for a 3.6.

The 3.6 does not need EFI nearly as much as other turbos do. It has the best CIS they ever made. It already had electronic ignition. It already has more torque.

It could probably still beenefit from EFI but it just is not as necessary as on the 3.3's.

I believe (but cannot prove) the best upgrades for the 3.6 turbo are headers, turbo, boost spring. I think that will make it as fast a street car as 99.9% can handle.

I have EFI on my 85 930 and it really helps. But it helps it overcome problems that the 3.6 does not have.

Just my $.02.

i had an 89 930 and you don't want one for a daily driver. I was going to do EFI, suspension, the works. Decided all that money was not worth dumping into the car so I got 993 twin turbo. Now I want to get the 3.6 turbo too. That's the best in my opinon of the "930" cars . I love that car, it just looks mean.

Am getting about 420bhp at the crank compared to 3.6 with360?bhp with more linear power delivery.

The premium of a 3.6 over 3.3 in your country may differ

Budget always dictates but if you can find a nice 3.6 for a reasonable price you already have some upgrades not mentioned, like the big reds vs Medium S4 brakes, ROW cars come with the lowered suspension that the 3.3's and US cars do not have. The speedline 3 piece wheels and not to mention the 3.6 liter displacement. Yes you can make either car monstrously fast if you want to but the 3.6 can be bumped very easily with just a few bolt on mods. I am running 430 at the crank with just the B&B headers, 1 bar spring and HF K27 turbo and some dyno tuning and I am still running the cat. If you buy a nice 3.3 for $12k to $18k less and spend all the money to upgrade to EFI you are about at the same hp level with a little more turbo lag and less low end power because of the smaller engine displacement. It is not significant enough to make a major difference but you may spend as much and still not have the other benefits.

So if budget dictates and you need to start low and build as you go the 930 is a great starting point but to bring it to the same level as a stock 3.6 you might find eventually you have spent as much as if you bought a 3.6 to begin with.

Same with the 3.3 964T's. So look into all your options figure out what your budget and goal is and figure out what works best for you, Most likely you will not be disappointed if you find a sound car but it may take a little more time to take the 930 path vs starting with the 964's.

Andy,

Where in Hoboken are you? I just noticed your sig says you are from Franks town. My business is on Adams Street. I think I might have seen your turbo around but Porsche's are becoming very popular around here. You plate wouldn't happen to have something to do about HP would it?

Cobalt - you have excellent points, it is just the price difference between the two right now. Can find some 930s in the high 20's to low 30's with decent mileage. I cant find a 964 T anywhere near that price.

911 Addict - the "raw" factor is what is cool about the 930, it is the characteristics of my 996, amplified by like 10 X's. ( Cringe when talking about the 996 )

Tippy,
You don't have to convince me! I like RAW.
I had a 1988 3.2 Carerra Sport for 4 years as a daily driver, and find my 965 too soft, hence the exhaust mods, and soon the suspension...

PS: I did get a bit tired with raw sometimes, eg late at night when tired, so the 965 is more livable, though not necessary lovable :-)

Miguel,
The money I'm spending on it doesn't help.
Also I haven't driven it for 4 weeks, so suffering from withdrawal. I am sure when it comes back I will fall in love again!

Hey Andy did you have the purpleish color 930 with the linnen interior from High Marques? If so, that was a great car. I remember seeing you run with Alan's S4.
