Hi, I wanted to introduce myself as I've just joined and am still figuring out avatars and usernames! Can’t believe the knowledge and camaraderie of the 964 forums - its incredible.

So 3 years ago I bought a '93 965 3.6, black with black/light grey interior which now has 80k on the clock. Without question its the most fun/feel-good/quickest car i've ever owned - its definitely a keeper. I'm not sure this is a good thing but on nearly every other drive someone will want to stop and talk to me about it.

Previous rides - 996 C2 cab, a 993 C2, and a 944 Turbo. Also had the usual assortment of hot hatches - VR6 Corrado, Golf Gti 16V Mk2, Corvette (kept that a week!).

Will try and post some pics but my pic files are all over 2meg so can’t upload them and don’t know how to reduce pixel/meg size!

good to meet you all
Anthony

Thanks
I'm west London, close to the M4. Yeah I first came across Rennlist back in '04 and have read with interest but work and life stuff kept me from joining as a member and contributing. But better late than never I guess.

I stil can get my photos to shrink pixel-wise or MB-wise. I dont have photoshop which could be a problem as all my photos are between 2.5 and 3MB. Any ideas?

Welcome!
I just moved from Ealing (west london) and now to the very gay paris! I drove my 3.6 for the first time yesterday and I had two bumps in the rear in less than one hour

Great cars to have but not for cities.

Still the 3.6 has some serious street cred

Thumbs up pics (a lot)

thanks for the software - works great, so hopefully i've reduced them enough and you'll be able to see them this time!

Anthony, welcome, and what a sweet ride! I really like the color combination.

How do you like it vs. the 993 C2 you had? I've had thoughts of moving to a 964T.

Also, how about the maintenance over your three years of ownership? Curious as to your experiences at that mileage level, as I might consider something similar, given how good your car looks!

Thanks, glad you like it.

To be honest I much prefer my 965 but that maybe because my 993 was either not quite right or simply just too new. The engine, steering and clutch all felt a bit too tight/heavy for my liking and it required a lot of work to drive smoothly - it had done 26k miles when I bought it I think. But as I say it might be I’d bought a poor one but the 965 at 72k miles (when I bought) feels much lighter – although that’s partly down to having more power.

I never serviced the 993 as I kept it only a year, it never let me down except flat battery, so cost me nothing maintenance wise. The 965 has had 2 services in the 3 years I’ve owned it which cost c.£750 each but it’s the fan bearings that keep going that have cost loads – 2 in the dash (c.£650 each all in – so do both together, its much cheaper!), one in the engine bay, and the brake booster (part alone was about £1000). But I think all these parts are the same for a 993 so I guess its just a matter of time.

I really don’t think mileage is much of an issue and could be a positive in terms of engine/gearbox loosening up. I reckon c.£2000 per year for maintenance should be absolutely plenty to cover all costs, including the fan/brake booster type one-offs – so long as you get a decent one to start with!!!

Ps how do I create a signature??

Anthony,

welcome to rennlist. For 80k miles this is a beautiful example.

Signature: Click on "User CP" and then on "Edit Signature".

Hi Anthony,
Lovely car. Uncannily like mine with colour combo (but yours is a 3.6!).
I'm surprised at how many 965's are coming out of the woodwork in the London/ home counties area. We are very local (I am from Pinner, used to live in Ealing). Surprised I haven't seen you. Are you in the Porsche Club? There are events/ meets quite regularly either via PCGB or even some of us Rennlisters get together (eg. a few of us went to the recent Goodwood german sports car breakfast morning). Hope to see you sometime.

Frank,
I don't think us cheapskate non members have an edit signature section. I've never worked out how to put one on, either.

Its funny, I cant remember when i last saw a 3.6 or 3.3 in London or surrounding areas, just millions of 996s! I like the look of yours to - the front ducts and red calipers really set it off

I havent joined the PCGB, I keep going to join but the club just seems a bit full of itself somehow - I dont mean to offend anyone. But yeah I would like to get involved in some of the meets, even my girlfriend quite fancies it.

I thought I was a member!! but have no way of adding a signature so clearly not.
