I am currenlty looking at fitting a set of aftermarket split pulse headers to my '93 965 3.6 turbo.
I have looked at both the GHL and B & B websites, seems that the GHL item is built from the superior 321SS as opposed to 304SS for B & B.
I see that several members here have these type of headers fitted. I would be interested to hear from anyone with experience of either of these headers on their turbo.
Ie,
Build Quality
Fit
Performance improvement
Service life/reliability, ie resistance to cracking etc.
I have done a little searching but didnt really come up with anything conclusive.
Thanks guys.
Clint.

GHL is made better.
I have a set of B&B and the heater boxes have cracked and now after dropping the engine (and resting it on the headers) I feel they have cracked. Not the same quailty as the factory.
EDIT: I think now the exhaust pipes have cracked

Performance wise the B&B's are very good. Quality wise they suck. I have 6k miles on mine and the heater boxes are already beginning top crack. The #3 cylinder never lined up properly and needed to be removed once already to have the gasket replaced and it may need it again. When I confronted B&B they wanted the entire exhaust returned to them and they would answer me in about a month. If it was their fault they would repair or replace, if they felt it was improperly installed I was SOL. Attitude wise alone I would go with GHL next time.
I have had several B&B products on my cars over the years and every one of them cracked or needed welding at one point.

I am running B&B on my 965 and GHL on my 930. The GHL quality is better but not by alot. My B&B setup looks like it was welded by a high school shop class. The reason I went with the B&B is for performace. The GHL is know for boost creep because the wastegate pipe is rather small. Plus I like the sound of the B&B exhaust.

My GHL's welding looks fine and I am fussy. The thing I hated is that they are not fully SS, the flanges are still mild steel. Of course there is a technical reason for this.

The B&B qaulity has been crap for YEARS. We would always carry extra bits at the track as something would always fall off or break. The GHL is much better. I have installed it on a number of cars. The only thing that I do not like is the Oil Line. They really need a better piece here.

I am led to believe that because of the exhaust gases from both banks of cyl's staying seperate until just before the turbo, this generates a split pulse effect and has the result of spooling up the turbo and making boost much lower in the revs.
Appartantly makes the car more progressive with power deliverly, reducers lag, and my mechanic reckons that on another car that he fitted a B & B to recently it was very impressive, felt like it was trying to rip the tyres off the wheels when it came on boost, it was an factory X88 otherwise stock. And these guys drive diablos, ferraris and turbo porsches and other fast race cars every other day, and are generally unimpressed by most stuff.
Can others please make comment on their thoughts of the performance increse over stock.

The bottom line on the headers performance is simple. The factory has roughly four feet of tube and the B&B and GHL shorten that by over half. Thus decreasing boost spool times. As for HP increases, your ***-dyno will lead you to think there are HP gains but it is really just lowering the turbo spool RPM not increasing HP(maybe modestly) (still a good thing).
