Engine insulation questions?
1. I guess I'm not alone with corroded heat shields at bottom of engine compartment. To replace, is this an engine out or bumper off job?
What are the effects of old heat shields, if any?
2. Again, commonly hear how we love the sound of our cars with the windows down (I've just discovered this now we have a hot summer in UK and no aircon at the moment!) but they are so well sound insulated with the windows up. Short of going for a full RS rear seat delete, are there any easy and subtle removals we can do eg. removing sound deadening from under carpets or engine bay area? Anyone done this and what difference does it make?
PS: Don't want really loud. just nice.

It gets loud from all the road sound (not the engine), I have installed mono ***** and that doesn't make it better.
It's not pleasant on long runs at all, you need an mp3 with some good music and tight headphones
Edit:
I should add that I love sound, thought I couldn't get enough of it.
