Jerry,

What you heard is the brake booster hydraulic pump working. How often do you hear this? After every start (like over night parking).

If your car is parked for a long time between start you might hear this, and it should operate only for a few seconds.

If you hear this everytime you start your car on daily basis, then you might have a leak on the brake booster revervoir (sp?).

Next time try to press on the brake, it will be rock hard if the pump is not working or you have a leak.

Once you start the car and start driving and you don't see the light or the beep anymore you are ok.

Your brake fluid level is probably low, I fill mine above the _Max mark.
Don't use silicon based fluid.

Mine beeps all the time when I first start it up - it's an annunciator on the front of the dash. I have never looked at the owner's manual, but I am sure it is described in there. I ignore it because I know my brakes are solid. It is not related to brake fluid level.

The beep is from lack of pressure in the break or clutch system, it's not normal but I wouldn't worry about it if it only happens when you car hasn't been used for a couple of weeks.
