There are 2 lines to the wastegate, the control line and a vent line. Remove them both in order to take off the wastegate. There is no oil in those lines.

when reconnecting i presume there is no bleeding etc as these are vent lines for opening and closing the wastegate do i also need to remove the exhaust from where it meets with the turbo

no bleeding needed, and yes the pipes controls the wastegate.
You only need to undo the 4 bolts holding down the wastegate to the exhaust system (and the 2 bolts on the wastegate which has 2 gaskets each), there is also a 13mm bolt holding the tail pipe section attached, then you can remove the wastegate with the whole tail pipe section attached.

I think there is a post about this just a couple of weeks ago.
Anyway, left side:
- Remove wastegate as described above
- Remove the air injection valve (bottom nut) in front of the lower valve cover
- Remove engine shield from below

Right side:
- Remove muffler
- Remove engine shield 3 bolts from above, the rest from below

Are you referring to the muffler as the exhaust as my drivers side uk vehicle right hand drive has no exhaust infront of the rocker covers
is the air injection valve a large item or just a bolt as described and when putting this back on are any gaskets seals etc required
your help is much appreciated i just want to know what i am getting into before i pull her apart
